GA Group Entertained At Bridal Party Tuesday The Intermediate Girl's Auxili ary of First Baptist church hon ored Miss Phyllis Ware, a mem Mer of th4 group whose wedding to Gene Austin will take place Sunday, after the regular GA meeting last Tuesday night at the church. Individual cakes with salted nuts, sandwiches, and punch were served, ai>d bridal games and contests were enjoyed. . The group gave Miss Ware a gift of china in her bridal pat tern. Miss Ware, Bride-Elect Honored At Party Tuesday Miss Dorothy Frances Goforth entertained Tuesday evening at her home at a bridal shower pay ing compliment to Miss Phyllis Ware, brideelect, whose wedding to Gene Austin will be an event of Sunday. Bridal games and contests were enjoyed, and the hostess, assisted by her mothter, Mrs. Bim Goforth, served a sandwich plate with des sert and Russian tea. Miss Ware wore a brown Jer sey dress and a white carnation corsage, a gift from the hostess. Lingerie gifts werte presented to the honoree. Fourteen gueBts made up the party list. Open Gate Garden Ciub Held Meeting Wednesday The Open Gate Garden club met last Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. Wilson Crawford and Mrs. J. C. McKinney as hostesses at the Country club and heard a program by Mrs. Gordon Wetek ley on "Holiday Food and Holi day Tables." Mrs. Weekley used posters to illustrate the program and show ed several holiday table settings. She distributed mimeographed shteets of Christmas recipes to the members. Four arrangements prepared by Mrs..C. J. Gault, Jr., Mrs. Crawford, Mrs. McKinney, and Mrs. Arnold Klncald were judged by the members. Mrs. C. E. Cash gave hints on "Whsft To Do Now in the Gar den". Mrs. Claude Hambrlght, this president, presided over the busi ness session. Mrs. T. M. Shu ford reported on the district garden convention in Charlotte. Eleven mfembers of the club attended the district meeting. Plans were completed for a cake sale to be held at C. E. War lick Insurance Agency on No vember 20th beginning at 8:30 a. m. Before the program, thte hos tesses served a dessert course with coffee. Breakfast Club Officers Attended Salisbury Meeting Mrs. Charles Alexander and Mrs. Faye Neal represented the local Credit Woman's Breakfast club at the fall board meeting of thte North Carolina State Asso ciation of Credit Women's Break fast clubs in session at Salisbury last weekend. The meeting was held at Salis bury's Yadkin Hotel with the Sal isbury club as hosts. Mrs. Alexan der, president of the local club, and Mrs. Neal, vlcte-presldent, at tended the president's workshop Saturday evening and the open house following. Reports of club activities dur ing the past year were heard, and President Evelyn Ray conducted a mass installation of all club presidents after the luncheon. More than 200 representatives from clubs in the association at tended. The Kings Mountain club la one of the twelve ntew breakfast clubs organized throughout the state iwithln the past year. Mrs. Padgett Hostess To Thursday Boole Club Thursday Afternoon Book club members met last week at the homfe of Mrs. P. G. Padgett. Mrs, W. T. Weir presented the program, a review of the book, "Tar Heel Ghosts" by John Har din. Mrs. C. Q. Rhyne, program chairman, presented the speaker. Mrs. P. D. Patrick, vice-presi dtent, conducted the business ses sion. A salad plate with sand wiches and coffee was served. Gordon Weekley, Jr., pastor of the church, will officiate at the double-ring ceremony. Miss Coleen Pate, of Rock Hill, S. C., organist, and Miss Doris May, of Greensboro, soloist, will present the wedding music. Charles Dewitt Ware will .give his daughter In marriage, and Darrell Austin, of Gastonia, will be blest-man for the groom-elect. Guests, invited to play with the regular members, were Miss An nie Mae Howie and Miss Ollie Hartsell, Mrs. Charles A. Goforth, Sr., won the high score award, Mrs. Bun Goforth received the prize, for second-high, and the floating prize went to Miss Ollie Hart sell. The club remembered Mrs. Bun Goforth, one of the members cele brating a birthday, with a gift A salad plate with chocolate ice box cake and coffefe was served after progressions. Ivirs. tred Finger Garden Club Hostess The Town and Country Garden club met Thursday night with Mrs. Fred Finger. The home was lovely with fall flowers. An at tractive dried arrangement was brought by Mrs. E. W. Griffin. Miss Helen Hay prewnted a program on "Garden Therapy", emphasizing especially the work that can be done at Veteran's hospitals. During the business session co pies of "Popular Gardening" were distributed, by Mrs. Don W. Blan ton, president. The group decided to exchange gifts at their Decem ber meeting. Orders were taken for the "Garden Calendar". The hostess served delicious re freshments, and a period of fel lowship concluded the meeting. Margrace Woman's CJub To Honor Teacher Friday The Margrace Woman's club will honor members of the Park Grace school faculty at a covered dish supper Friday evening at 6:30 at the Margrace Woman's clubhouse. It will be the regular mpeting of the Woman's club, and all I members of the club are invited to attend, a spokesman for the group said Tuesday, j _ . Mrs. Drace Notes 79th Anniversary Mr*. Fannie M Drace observed her 79th birthday anniversary last Wednesday, November 10th, and was honored at dinner at thfe home of her daughter, Mrs. B. S. Peeler, Mr. Peeler, and fam ily Mrs. Drace, pf Grier, S. C., was visiting here several days last week in the home of the Peelfers. Members of the family made up the guest list. The birthday cake served as the centerpiece for the dining room table, and flow ers with greenery were used in other rooms of the home. Program On "HoMy" Given At Club Meeting The Kings Mountain Gardfen club met last Wednesday after noon with Mrs. J. E. Herndon at her home and hear a a program on "Holly" by Mrs. W. L. Mauney. Arrangements of chrysanthe mums decorated the living room, and each member brought an Au tumn Harvest arrangement of fruits or flowers which were Jud ged. Mrs. Carl Mauney won the blue ribbon, Mrs. W. L. Pressly, the red ribbon, and Mrs. W. L. Ramseur, the yellow ribbon. During the business session conducted by Mrs. H. C. Mayes, the president, a report of the gar den club district meeting at Char lotte was heard. 9 Mrs. Mayes' sister, Mrs. Jack Wagner, of Statesville, who was visiting the Mayes family, was A guest of the club. A salad and sweet course with coffee was ser ved during the social hour. Mrs. Benson Hostess To Baptist Circle The Lula Herndon circle of First Baptist church met Monday at the home of Mrs. L. L. Benson. Mrs. Jade Hullender, the circle chairman, gave the opening pray, er and devotional. Mrs. Ralph Hullender, program chairman, gave the program on "Prayer". Mrs. Benson spoke briefly on "My Experience In Prayer", and Mrs. B. T. Wright and Mrs. J. W. Watson spoke on "My Prayer List" Mrs. Hullender concluded the program with the reading, "Why We Pray".
