MORE ABOUT Gerberding Continued From Front Page months. Mr. Carlton reported that Rec rfeation Baseball League cost a total of $1248 to operate, but pointed out that he had raised $1272 for this league through do nations. The Slo-pich softball league was conducted at a cost of just $5.95 to the Recreation Commis sion. This money was used to buy a trophy for the league champi on. Deal street pool receipts through last Thursday totaled $2363, Mr. Carlton reported. This represented an average daily to tal of $26.95 for the 11-week pe riod. However, Mr. Carlton add ed that the daily payroll at Deal street pool was $21, leaving a little over $5 per day to pay for lights, water, chemicals and other supplies. The City Board of Commission ers agreed at its last meeting to “write-off” all back water and light bills charged to the Recrea tion Commission. One phase of Mr. Carlton’s re port was of great concern to the present commission. Carlton re ported that the average weekly income of the Negro swimming pool was $35-$40, while salaries at the pool were costing the city some $60 per week. Members expressed much con cern with this picture, and discus sed means by which attendance at the Negro pool could be in creased. The commission members were split on one issue—that of wha: should come first—a fulltime rec reation director or additional rec reation facilities. Each of these items will depend upon the finan-’ cial condition of the recreation program. The possibility of establishing a winter recreation program was also discussed, but no action was taken by the commission. Dr. Gerberding closed the ini tial session by asking that each member of the commission pre pare a sample budget and list of recreational needs to be taken up at the next meeting. Dean Payne, Jaycee represen tative, moved that Fred Plonk be appointed senior advisor for the commission. This did not come to a vote^ and no action was taken. ** MORE ABOUT Phillips Returns Continued From Front Page his second pastorate in Kings j Mountain.
