Elizabeth Stewart, Editor » Mrs. Neisler Hostess To House And Garden Club The House and Garden club heard a program on European Gardens by Mrs. J. E. Herndon at the club’s regular meeting last Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Charles Neisler on Phifer road. Mrs. Herndon, who spoke on a program arranged by Mrs. Hay ne Blackmer, used slides to il lustrate the subject. Mrs. Blackmer, program chair man, introduced the speaker and remembered Mrs. Herndon with a gift. Mrs. Aubrey Mauney, club pres ident, conducted the business ses sion.-Miss Margaret Goforth, an honorary member, was recogniz ed for her work with the Junior Garden club of Kings Mountain. The Junior Garden dub, sponsor ed by the House and Garden club was organized at Central school last year. Members of the club voted to give prizes to Junior Garden club members for the best poster drawing in the recent Litterbug campaign, a project of the club. One boy and one girl from the club is to receive a prize from the House and Garden club. Mrs. L., Arnold Kiser and Mrs. J. C. Bridges prepared the ar rangements. Mrs. Kiser’s arran gement, which received the blue ribbon, featured gladioli foliage, burfordi holly, and boxwood and ivy leaves in a green pottery vase. Mrs. Bridges had arranged eucalptus, holly, and ivy and ga lax leaves in a black container. The hostess served a dessert course with coffee. LIBRARY HOURS' Jacob S. SATURDAYS: 9:30-12 noon. Magnolia Garden Club Held Meeting Friday Magnolia Garden club members held their regular meeting last Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. E. L. Carlton. Mrs. Kenneth McGill was pro gram chairman and presented the program on the topic, “The Relation of A Container to the Arrangement.” Mrs. Johnny Kerns, president of the mb, conducted the busi ness session. Arrangements, on the theme, “for the wee citizens,” were prepared by Mrs. William Herndon, who received the blue ribbon, and by Mrs. John C. Mc Gill, who received the red rib bon. Specimens were house plants. The hostess served a dessert course with coffee. Minister's Wives Group To Hold Meeting Friday The January meeting of the Minister’s Wives Auxiliary of the Kings Mountain Baptist Associa tion will be held Friday after noon at 3 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Aubrey T. Quakenbush at 110 North Gaston street. Co-hostesses are Mrs. Carl Greene and Mrs. T. A. Llneberger. Mrs Charles Meaghor, of Shel by, will speak on the topic, “I Want My Home to be Orderly” and Mrs. Jack Bracy, of the Dou ble Springs church, will give the devotional. Mrs. Lineberger, secretary of the auxiliary, invited all mem bers to attend. Jay Patterson Host At Bachelor's Dinner Jay Patterson, Jr., entertained last Thursday evening at a bach elor’s dinner at Kings Mountain Country club. Present for the three - course dinner were Mr. Patterson, his father, J. H. Patterson, Horace L. Bell, Giles Bell, Arnold Bell, David Plonk, John B. Plonk, Ja cob Dixon, and B. S. Peeler, Jr. The meal was served in the pri vate dining room ot the club which was decorated in red flow ers, greenery, and foliage. An elongated arrangement was the centerpiece for the table. Miss Carolyn Bell Married Saturday To Jay H Patterson In Church Rites Miss Carolyn Geneva Bell and Jay Hart Patterson, Jr., both of Kings Mountain, exchanged mar riage vows Saturday evening at six o’clock in a candlelight wed ding ceremony in Oak Grove Bap tist church. The Rev. James Holder, minis ter of the church, was assisted by the Rev. Arnold Bell, uncle of the bride, in performing the double - ring ceremony. Vows were said before a back ground of greenery interspersed by cathedral tapers in wrought iron candelabras and floor bask ets of white gladioli. Tapers in the church windows and a satin-co vered prie-dieu completed the dec oration. Wedding music was rendered by Mrs. Aubrey Mauney, pianist, and B. S. Peeler, vocalist. Selections by Mrs. Mauney in cluded “Largo” by Handel, “Ave Maria” by Schubert, “Arabesque” by Debussy, “Moonlight Sonata,” the first movement, by Beetho ven,” “O Lord Most Holy” by Franck, and “O Perfect Love” by Barnby. Mr. Peeler sang “Sweetest Story Ever Told” by Stults, “Be cause” by d’Hardelot, and the benedictional selection, “The Lord’s Prayer” by Malotte. Tra ditional marches by Wagner and Mendelssohn were used for pro cessional and recessional music. The dress featured a lace bodice accented by scalloped neckline outlined in iridescent sequins and long poin-, ted sleeves. Crystal pleated ruf fles complemented the very full skirt which was fashioned with front and back panels of lace which formed a chapel train. Her j triple - tier veil of 'illusion was attached to a tiara of pearls and she wore a single strand of pearls, gift of the groom. She carried a white prayerbook top-1 ped with a white purple - throat-! ed orchid from which extended satin streamers. Miss Nancy Bell, sister of the bride, was maid of honor, and Mrs. Giles Bell, aunt of the bride, was matron of honor. Brides maids were Miss Betty Ann Bell, aunt of the bride, Miss Juanita Lovelace, Miss Becky Thornburg, cousins of the bride, Miss Jeanne Plonk, cousin of the groom, and Miss Kay Ellen Isley, of Burling ton, cousin of the groom. Frankie Hamrick and Ann Hamrick, cousins of the bride, were junior attendants. Flower girls were Nadine Bell and An nie Ray Williams, cousins of the bride. The attendants wore floor length dresses of amber irides cent taffeta. The gowns featured snug - fitting bodices accented by low scooped necklines, brief slee ves and bouffant skirts comple mented by butterfly bustles. They wore white gloves and matching pearl tiaras with nose veils. Their colonial nosegays were of blend ing shades of gladioli interspers ed by valley lilies tied with matching satin ribbon. Jay Hart Patterson, was best man for his son, and ushers included John Butler Plonk, un cle of the groom, David Plonk, cousin of the groom, Jacob Dix on, and Giles Bell, cousin of the bride. Jack Bell, cousin of the bride, was ringbearer. The bride’s mother, Mrs. Bell, wore a blue braided sheath dress trimmed in rhinestones with wint er white accessories. Mrs. Pat terson, mother of the groom, wore blue lace and chiffon trimmed in rhinestones and pearls with sequin hat. Each of the mothers wore a corsage of purple orchids. Mrs. Paul Bell and Mrs. Bill McGinnis presided at the register. After receiving in the church vestibule, the couple left for a trip to Florida. For traveling, Mrs. Patterson wore a beige wool fitted suit with brown accessor ies and the orchid from her bri dal bouquet. Mrs. Patterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Horace L. Bell, was graduated from Bethware high school and is employed in the of fices of Margraee Mill here. Mr. Patterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Patterson, was graduated from Kings Mountain high school and is employed by Lithium Corporation of Ameri ca. The couple will reside on Pied mont Avenue. Among out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. S. Couple Honored Friday At Rehearsal Party Miss Carolyn Bell and Jay Pat terson, Jr., were honored Friday evening at a post rehearsal par ty in the fellowship hall of Oak Grove Baptist church. Hosts for the event were the bride-elect’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Horace L. Bell, and Mr. and Mrs. John Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hamrick, Mr. an d Mrs. Floyd Thornburg, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby C. Ware, and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Patterson. Traditional bridal colors of' green and white were observed in the decoration. White cutwork and linen cloths covered the re freshment tables. Decorations on the bride’s table featured the green and white wedding cake, two large handmade candles tied with satin ribbon, and nosegays of glads and lilies of the valley. Candles, white satin bows, and wedding bells together with the punch service were used on the punch table.. White satin rings, wedding bells, and candles deco rated the mantel and piano.
