K. M. Tigers Play At City Stadium Saturday Night The Kings Mountain Tigers will play their first flight game of the season at City Stadium Saturday, meeting the Statesville Red Sox art 8 o’clock. Detroit Jones will hurl for the Tigers against the Red Sox’s tout ed 18-year old chunker, David Jackson, who has won five straight this spring and tossed a t one-hitter against the Tigers here last season. Owens spoiled a no hitter in that one with a double with two out in the last of the ninth. The Tigers split a double-head , er here last Saturday, defeating Grover 6-4 in an opener, then losing to the Shelby Red Legs, 2-0 in the nightcap. The second game was called at five innings due to darkness. Kings Mt came from behind to beat Grover, with five runs in the sixth frame. Miller, Petty and Jones worked on the mound for the Tigers, with the latter giving up only one run and three hits in the final three stanzas. D. Jones also started the sec ond game and blanked Shelby without a hit for three innings. W. Jones took over in the fourth and gave up three hits and two unearned runs. An error by Man ager William Orr a third base poved costly to the Tigers. The club posted a score of 491 with an average of 98.2, compar ed to Ithe Kings Mountain Guard unit’s 461 score and 92.2 average. T. W. Bryant at Kings Moun tain was the high scorer for the Club, with a 100 score. He was followed on his team by Fain Hambright with a 99, C. D. Coats 98, Gene Champion and Frank Sikes 97 each. M/Sgrt. Preston Holt, Graver High School coach, led the guardsmen with a 99 score. He was trailed by M/Sgt. William Clack and Cpl. Bill Ivey with 96 each, Cpl. Bill Morgan 94, and Pfc. Richard Wells 76. Ex-KM Football Coach Weiner Gets Promotion Art Weiner, former Kings Mountain High School football coach, is moving up the ladder in the business executive field with Burlington Industries. The former football All-Ameri can at the University of North Carolina has been named as an assistant vice president of Bur mil following his transfer from New York ito the Greensboro of fices of the textile firm of which Phenix in Kings Mountain is a par;. In his new capacity, Weiner will serve as executive assistant to Spencer Love, chairman and president of Burmil, and Vice Chairman J. C. Cowan, Jr. He will have responsibilities in both staff and manufacturing areas of the company’s Southern opera tions. Coats was second in this divsion with a score of 173-2x, and Floyd Willis was third with a score of 164-lx. Bryant also had the high score in the shotgun trap 16 yard, any iguage, match. He won in a shoot off with Fain Hambrighit of Gro ver. The two tied with identical scores of 20 out of a possible 25 in the regulation match. Bryant posted a three and Hambrighit a two in the extra round. Paul Holt was third with a score of 18. Black and Ballard teamed-up to pitch the victory in ithe extra inning affair. Plonk with four hilts, Rhea with a homer, Ballard and H. McGinnis paced the 14 hit Kiwanis attack. Hord and Murphy rapped two hits each to share the Burmil hits. Kiwanis pushed over the winning runs in ithe eighth frame.
