Spencer, stewardship, U1SN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Spencer of route 1, Box 350, Kings Mountain, N. C., is serving aboard the anti - submarine air craft carrier USS Randolph op erating with the U. S. Second Fleet off the Atlantnc Coast. Added Incentive Los Angeles, Calif., rookie po liceman John W. Ensign made his first arrest when he spotted a stolen car. He gave chase and captured the driver. S. C. Bail; Enlists In Marine Corps CHAiRLOiTE. — Bobby Gene Baity, 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jaimes Floyd Baity of 311 North Gaston street, Kings Moun tain, has enlisted in the Marine Corps and is now undergoing re cruit training at Parris Island, S. C. i Upon completion of 12-weeks basic training, Private Baity will be assiignki to Camp Lejeune, N. C., for 4-weeks of individual com bat training. While at Lejeune, Baity will train with thousands of other young men in such things as: tank - infantry tactics, helicopter landings, firing of va vious weapons such as the .30 and .50 caliber machine gun and the rocket launcher, and participate in land-sea-air maneuvers. After 16- weeks of all around training that will produce a top notch fighting man capable of meeting and overcoming any sit uation, Pvt. Baity will be granted a 20 day leave to visit with fam ily and friends. Upon returning from leave. Bobby will be assign ed to a technical school, or to one of the land-sea-air units of the Marine Corps. Stone Attached To Marine Unit CAMP LEJEUNE, N. C., (FHT NC) — Marine Acting Sgt. Don ald E. Stone, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack C. Stone, of 914 Church st., Kings Mountain, N. C., participa ted in “Tralex 4-59”, an amphibi ous training exercise involving u-, nits of the Second Marine Divis ion at Camp Lejeune, N. C. Comprising 18,000 Navy and Marine personnel, along with 50 ships of the Atlantic Fleet, the ex ercise ran from Oct. 26 to Nov. 9. Highlight of the operation was a night landing at Onslow Beach, on Nev. 6 to test the efficiency and combat readiness of units in volved.
