Miss Margaret Costner Wed Saturday To James Vick Smith In Church Rites Miss Margaret Costner of Gas tonia and James Vick Smith of Kings Mountain pledged marri age vows Saturday in a 3 p. m. wedding tyeld in First Presbyter ian church. Eh-. Paul Ausley, the minister, heard the exchange of vows in a double-ring ceremony. The church altar was arranged with white gladioli and palms and interspersed with cathedral tapers in wrought-iron candela bras. Mrs. Darrell Austin, organist, and Charles Costner, soloist, ren dered a program of traditional music. Organ numbers included “A dagio” by Sonata, ‘‘C Minor” by Guilmant, “Evening Star” by Wagner, ‘To A Wild Rose”, Mc Dowell, “O Perfect Love", Barn by, “Dreams”, Mt-Amis, and '■An dante". Mr. Costner sang “I Dove You Truly" and “Seal Us O Holy Spirit.” The hride, given in marriage by her father, wore a waltz-len gth gown of chiffon and taffeta. Designed with fitted bodice and bouffant .skirt, the dress had a fitted jacket with three-quarter length sleeves. Her matching headpiece was dropped with flir tation veil and she carried a J white lac«-covered prayer book topped with gladmellias and sa tin streamers. Miss Gail Costner, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor and only attendant. Her full-skirted dress of blue chiffon and taffeta was designed with scoop neck-1 ( line and three-quarter-length si-1 - eeves. She wore a matching headpiece and carried a nose gay of daisy mums. ; The bridegroom’s father waa i best man. Westmoreland of Grover en tertained at a reception imme diately following the ceremony in the church fellowship hall. The bride’s table, done in pink, held the three tier pink and white wedding cake as the focal point of decoration. The large punch bowl was used at one end of the table, and a mass arran gement of pink and white flo wers marked the center of the table which was overlaid with ruffled net and linen. Mrs. Paul Ausiley cut and ser ved the wedding cake. Lime pun ch was poured by Mrs. Lloyd Al exander. Mints and nuts were also served with the cake and punch. Goodbyes were .said to Mr. and Mrs. Hall Goforth. The new Mrs. Smith is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Costner of Gastonia. She is a graduate of Ashley high school in Gastonia. Mr. Smdth is the (son of Mr. ■ and Mrs. James F. Smith of Kings Mountain. He is a gradu ate of Kings Mountain high school and is employed by Fire .tone Textiles in Gastonia. For a trip to the mountains Urs. Smith wore a two-piece blue ind white linen suit with acces ories to match and the flowers torn her 'bridal bouquet. Kindergarten Exhibit Set The third annual arts and cra fts exhibit of Kings Mountain Christian Kindergarten will be held Friday in the fellowship hall of First Baptist church. Hours of the exhibit are from 2:30 to 4:30 in the afternoon and 7 to 9 p. m. that evening. The work shown will represent the various activities of the stu dents throughout the year. In cluded will be free hand draw ings, finger painting, tempera painting, spatter-painting, sea sonal handwork, clay modeling, nature collections and leading materials. Local Women Judge Shelby Flower Show Four Kings Mountain women were judges Tuesday for the Standard Flower Show held in Shelby by the *Shelby Garden club and Phil Acres Garden club. They were Mrs. W. M. Gantt, Mrs. W. L. Pressly, Mrs. M. A. Ware, and Mrs. J. E. Herndon, all of whom are accredited state judges. Also serving as judges were Mrs. R. L. Lewis, Bessemer City, and Mrs. W. R. Rutner, Gastonia. Teachers Attend State Meeting Two Kings Mountain teachers attended the three-day Eta State Convention of Delta Kappa Gam ma, international honor society of women educators, in Raleigh | during the weekend. Miss Alice Averitt, city schools teaching consultant, and Miss i Gussie Huffstetler, teacher at North school, attended the con vention Friday through Sunday. Theme for the meeting was “Open Doors On Tomorrow’s World.” Convention speakers were Mrs. Mae Knight Clark, au thor of the North Carolina soc ial studies texitbook, “Living To gether Around the World” and Mirs. Esther C. Holt, Southeastern Regional Director from West Palm Beach, Fla. They used the subjects, “Tomorrow Challenges Education” and “The World Is My Neighbor.” , The group of some 200 teachers were also guests of Mrs. Luther Hodges at a tea at the Gover nor’s Mansion on Saturday. Class Meeting Held Monday Mrs. Roy Matthews and Mrs. Jack Stone were hostesses Mon day night to the regular meeting of the Friendship class of Grace Methodist church. Present for a meeting at the church fellowship hall were 12 members and two visitors, Mrs. Flo Cline and Miss Margaret Huffstetler. Mrs. L. P. Price had arranged the program, “Revive Us," and members sang the hymns, “There Is Power In The Blood," “I Need Jesus” and “Revive Us Again.” The evening prayers were offered by Mrs. Frank Ballard, Mrs. Jack Stone, Mrs. Clyde Fite, and Mrs. Andy Huffstetler. Mrs. Clyde Fite presided. At refreshment time, the hos tesses served sandwiches with po tato chips, pound cake, and pun ch.. Spring flowers were used to decorate the meeting room. Hollidays Held Family Reunion Some 75 descendants of Wil liam R. Holliday gathered for a family reunion Sunday in Floor enee, S. C. Kings Mountain relatives who attended were Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Campbell, Joe and Sandy Campbell, and Miss Lynda Lynn. Mr. Holliday was the maternal grandfather of Mrs. Cambpell. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Alexan der of Charlotte visited Mr. and Mrs. Seth Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. James F. Smith and family during the weekend. The Wilsons are parents of Mrs. Alexander. Mrs. Smith is Mrs. Alexander's sister. Class Held Spring Dance Thirty pupils In the ballroom class of the Colvin School of Dance held their annual spring danse at the Country Club last Friday evening. Members of the class who ser ved as hosts for the affair were Miss Linda Sherer, Miss Sarah Frances Mauney, Joe Peeler, and Lynn Cheshire. Chaperones were Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Sherer, Mr. and Mrs. W.
