McKee, of Kings Mountain, has been in Chapel Hill partici pating in the Pre-Registration and Visitation Program. The pur pose of this program is to enable a student to take required place ment tests in advance, to select his subjects for the fall, and to have opportunity to consult of ficials of the University in re gard to loans, scholarships, jobs, Housing, and ROTC opportunities. This program is sponsored by the General College, the Admis sions Office, the Office Student Affairs, and the Testing Service. It is anticipated that approxi mately a thousand members of the class entering in September will come to Chapel Hill on one of the eighteen designated days to participate in the program, James E. Query Succumbs At 83 Funeral services were conduct ed Friday for James E. Query, of Concond and father of Mrs. Jack Barham of Kings Mountain. Mr. Query, 83, died Wednesday of a heart attack at Timrick Hall Nursing Home in Concord. He had been in declining health for four months, but death was un expected. A retired fanner, and native of Cabarrus County, Query was the son of the late James Victor Que ry and Mrs. Martha Earnhardt Query. He was active in the De mocratic party circles of North Carolina and was an active member of Back Creek ARP church. Services were conducted alt 3 p. m. from Back Creek church near Newell with the Rev. S. A. Boyce officiating The body lay In state at Lady’s Chapel there from 2 p. m. Wednesday to 2 p. m. Friday. Burial was in the church cemetery. Survivors in addition to Mrs. Barham include: the wife, Mrs. Fanny Orr Query of the home; five sons, Robert E„ Charles C., and Fred A., all of Kannapolis, Marion O. and James L. of Con cord; two daughters, Mrs. E. Brown Morgan, and Mrs. Spur geon Helms, both of Kannapolis; one sister, Mrs Laura Gallowat of Charlotte; and 12 grandchild ren. Scouts Enjoy Monday Outing Catawba Lake was full of Mountaineers Monday when 32 boys and 9 men from St Matt hew’s Lutheran Troop 2 covered the iriver with shouts of laugh ter as they rode motor boats, surf boards and water skis. Boat captains included Zip Rhea, Aubrey Mauiney, J. V. Pressly, Harold Ledford and Billy Mauney. . Scoutmasters Charles Ramsey and Otis Falls kept the boys rea dy and waiting as Luther Barnes and Phil Mauney instructed wa ter skiing. Bell Names Sam Davis, Ir. Sam M. Davis, Jr., of Charlotte has been named Public Relations Manager for the Gastonia Dis trict of Southern Bell Tel. & Tel. Co. The announcement was made by Robert E. Wood, Gastonia District Manager. I Mr. Davis began his telephone career in Charlotte in 1950 as Directory Advertising Salesman. He was transferred to Commer cial Engineering ’in 1954 as a Survey Engineer with headquar ters in Charlotte. . Reared in Mt. Olive, N. C., Mr. Davis attended public schools in Mt. Olive, N. C. He is a graduate of Bowling Green Business Uni versity, Bowling Green, Ky., and also attended Davidson College and Mrs. Hill College. Mr. Davis is -married and has three children, Sammy, Anne, and Peggy Lynn; and they are mem bers of the First Presbyterian Church in Belmont. He has been active in civic affairs and is an officer of Bel mont Masonic Lodge No. 627 and American Legion Post No. 144. C. The boys spent three days In tents. Swimming, scouting and Religious activities kept the boys busy. The ten included Danny Fin ger, Carl Weisener, Ray White, Gene White, Ronny Dover, Rod ney Smith, Larry Gantt, Tommy Limbaugh, Lairry Adams and Neal Cooper. Bob Wilson stayed in camp with the boys.
