Funeral rites for Mrs. Susan
McConnell Weldh, 84, were held
Wednesday at 4 p. m. from tMt.
I .ran Baptist dtturdh, interment
following in the dhunch cemetery.
Mrs. Weldh, widow of John W.
Welch, died Monday afternoon at
the home of a daughter, Mrs. R.
H_ Flowers. She was a native of
Iredell County and the daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abner
McConnell. She was a member of
Grover’s Sthiloh Presbyterian
church.
In addition to Mrs. Flowers
■he is survived fay another dau
ghter, Mrs. Preston Goforth of
Grover; and four sons, Jesse Wel
ch), tester Weldh, Clyde Welch
and Ralph Welch, all of Kings
Mountain; 20 grandchildren and
24 great-grandchildren.
The final rites were conducted
toy Rev. Riidhand Hobson, pastor
of Shiloh church, assisted by
Rev. Joe Kanipe.

The Kings Mountain High
School band, under the direction
of Joe Hedden, played for the
assembly program for all grades
at Bethware School on Monday
morning.
The band played the same se
lections it played for the public
concert here last Sunday and
will repeat for the Kings Moun
I tain High assembly on Thursday.
The selections included overtures,
marches, and popular tunes.

Webb College for the 1961-62
school year. He was elected presi
dent in recent campus-wide elec
tions. He is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Coley D. Freeman of Kings
Mountain.
One of the most spirited cam
paigns in recent college history
marked the elections this year.
In the presidenltial race, four
candidates vied for the top stu
dent office. The close vote result
ed in the necessity of a run-off
between Freeman and football
standout Ken Sanford of Hart
well, Ga. Only a few votes sepa
rated the two srtudents when the
final tallies were made. Other
students who were in the initial
contest were Bobby Hoover of
Lawndale and Hoyle Alexander,
Jr. of Gaffney, S. C.
Nancy Sorrells, honor student
from Waynesville and a religious
education major, was elected to
the vice-presidency. Her parents
are the Rev. and Mrs. W. L. Sor
rells.
Named secretary of the College
Government was Priscilla Linder,
religious education major from
Oowpens, S. C. Her parents are
Mr. and Mrs. James W. Linder.
Students running for govern
mental office are named by a
nominating committee or by stu
dent petition.
