In other action the board:
1) Authorized Supt. Barnes to
make needed expense transfer
rats into the 'band fund for re
placement and repair of 'instru
ments.
2) Discussed a request from
the Battleship North Carolina
drive that each school child in
the city system 'be asked to con
tribute 10 cents to the fund
which will be used rto purchase
the battleship and make a mem
orial of it in a park setting in
Raleigh.
Supt. Barnes noted that the po
licy has been that no fund drives
except directly connected with
school children _ such as the
Junior Red Cross, have been al
lowed in the schools.
The board agreed that if the
children wished to contribute to
the fund, the drive would be ac
ceptable, and if not, the drive
could be handled in the P-TA’s
of the various schools.
Authorized Supt. Barnes to set
up and operate a summer school
if interest warrants it.
