Outing Attracts Area Families Kings Mountain families, including young folk, and parents, num bered 1700 at the annual employee outing held recently by Neisler division of Massachusetts Mohair Plush Company. Claire Gilstad snapped this typical family at the picnic and the youngsters seem to enjoy the barbecue meal and picnic weather at Lake Crawford. Recent Bride Honored Mrs. Harold Herndon, Mrs. Herman Blalock and Mrs. Gil lie Falls, Jr., entertained Monday night at the Falls home on Grover road at a drop-in shower honoring Mrs. Jack Wells, bride of October 7th. Mrs. Wells, who wore a green suit, was given a corsage of mums and miscellaneous household gifts from 25 guests. The refreshment table, overlaid with lace cloth, held a Lazy Susan at the center with an assortment of party food •served with bridal'cake squares, ribbon sandwiches and cof fee. A dried arrangement of fall flowers centered a drop leaf table which held the gifts. Mrs. Wells also received the flower centerpiece as a gift from the three hostesses. * * * * Dancing classes for Country Club members are continu ing on Thursday nights for four weeks. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Curtin of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio of Charlotte are instructors for lessons in rhumba, chacha, swing and samba. Classes are taught from 8:15 until 10:15 p. m. * * * * Miss Sally Logan and her roommate, Miss Brenda Leath erman of Vale, spent the weekend with Miss Logan's parents, Mr. and Mrs., W. Lawrence Logan. Misses Logan and Leath erman are students at Gaston Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Gastonia. * * * * Hallowe'en Dance A Hallowe'en dance has been set for Saturday by Legion naires of Post 155 and their guests beginning at 8 p. m. at the Legion Hajll on York Road. A dance bapd will provide music for dancing. Miss Linda White, November Bride-Elect Honored At Tea Here Saturday Miss Linda White, bride-elect of November, was paid compli ment Saturday afternoon when Mliss Charity Goforth, (Miss Jac kie (Merrill and (Miss (Martha Mbt ley of Concord entertained at a beautifully - appointed tea at the Woman’s Club. Guests who called from three until six o’clock were friends of the honoree from Kings Moun tain, Gastonia, Concord, Char lotte and Goldsboro. ’ Mrs. Don Carpenter, Mrs. Hor ace Hord and Mrs. Jacob Dixon greeted arriving callers and Mrs. G. V. Petty headed the receiving line which included Miss White, her mother, Mrs. James White, Miss Charity Goforth, Miss Bren da McDaniel, Miss Jackie Merrill, Mrs. Shuford K. Peeler, Sr. of Charlotte, mother of Miss White’s fiance Shuford Peeler, Jr., and Miss Martha Motley. The honoree wore a blue full skirted party dress with dyed-to rn at ch slippers and white shou lder corsage, gift of the hostess es. (Miss Brenda Thornburg and Mrs. Dorus Bennett served punch and assisting in receiving and entertaining were Mrs. Fred Mot ley of Concord, Mrs. Ralph Fitch of Concord, Mrs. D. B. Wallace of Goldsboro and Mrs. Bill Wallace of Gastonia. The refreshment table, overlaid with white linen cloth, was dec orated In traditional bridal co lors and green and white also featured the bride’s cakes, mints and punch served throughout the reception. A eight-branch candel abrum at one end of the table held White tapers and was dec orated with ivy. The silver punch bowtl at one end of the table was also decorated with green fern and white flowers. White flowers with greenery were used decoratively in the fo yer and lounge of the club house. The hostesses’ gift to the bride elect was a toaster. Junior Clubbers Among Exhibitors •Rose Junior Garden club has! elected officers for the coming year. Mrs. Pruett Wins State Fair Prizes Mrs. Harold Pruett of Lawn dale won a number of prizes in the culinary department of the North Carolina State Fair at Ra leigh as prizes were awarded last Monday. The Cleveland County woman won third place for canned green peas, one second place for can ned sausage, two third places for miscellaneous jam and fruit but ter and apple jelly, one first pl ace far ehowcbaw, one third pl ace for sweet peach pickles, one first place for apple juice and one third place award far black berry juice. Home Nursing Class Offered Mrs. Etta Bennett and Mrs. Marion DuBose have completed an instructor’s course in home nursing and are now qualified to serve as instructors under a pro gram open to all Kings Mountain area women by the Kings Moun tain Chapter, American Red Cross. The Kings Mountain women are available to teach communi ty courses in home nursing, a course to be offered in two-hour sessions. L. Austell, Jr. MARRIAGE ANNOUNCED — Mr. and Mrs. Millard L. Metcalf of Kings Mountain announce the marriage of their daughter, Mildred Joyce, to William Oates, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Leonard Oates of Cherryville. The wedding took place last Wednesday evening in Gaffney, South Carolina. The bride is a student in the Kings Mountain schools. Mr. Oates attended Cherryville city schools and is employed by Sunbeam Dairy at Cherryville. The newlyweds are at home with the bridegroom’s parents. Clothing Drive Is Continuing If you have clothes you oa your children have outgrown don’t throw them away! The Children’s Clothing Closet a project of the Junior Woman’s Club, is now underway and many usuable garments are needed to clothe school children as well as adults. Mrs. John H. Gamble, Project chairman, says children’s shoes are especially needed. Other needed items include good, warm clothing for school children. Headquarters for the annual drive Is the Home Economics de partment of Central school and clothing may be delivered to the high school plant or Junior club members will pick-up the bun dles of clothing at homes of don ors. MIrs. Gamble, in commenting on the drive, noted that the Kings Mountain club distributed over 1,000' items of clothing to the a rea needy during the drive last fall. All clothing ds distributed locally either via the schools or the Cbunty Welfare Department.
