m ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED—"Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hilliard Black announce the engagement of their daughter, Peggy Ann, to Harold Henry Jackson, son of Mrs. Thompson Wood Jackson and ,the late Mr. Jackson. Scouts Win Honors IN COURT OF AWARDS PROGRAM - These Brownie and Girl Scouts participated in Friday’s Court of Arnirds program for Kingt Mountain Girl Scouts. A color guard by Central Methodist Troop 1 proceeded the presentation of numerous auprds to Girl Scouts of First Presbyterian and Boyce Memorial ARP churches. The retiring colors were also under direction of Brownie Troop 1 and Brownies and other Girl Scouts assisted in serving punch and cookies during a social hour held after the awards program. Plonk Honored On Silver Anniversary May 12 Mr. and Mrs. Wray Augustus Plonk were honored on their sil ver wedding anniversary Sunday afternoon at a reception given by their children at the home ol Mr. and Mrs. Carlisle Beam in Cherryville. Mr. and Mrs. Beam greeted guests and presented them to the honored couple and hosts, Mr. and Mrs. G. K. Bud Bumgardner, Mr. and Mrs. Wray A. Plonk, Jr., and Miss Linda Plonk. Mrs. Benton Putnam, Mrs. Plonk’s mother, and Thomas Hill, of Charlotte entertained in the den and directed visitors into the dining room where refreshments were served. A pink and white motif was beautifully carried out on the dining table, covered with pink satin and maline, caught at the corners with satin bows, two white cupid-based candelabrum holding lighted pink candles and decorated with pink roses and centered by a cake topped with silver tipped bells and pink roses. Mis. Thomas Hill served cake, mints, nuts and sandwiches, and lime punch was poured from a crystal punch bowl on a small ta ble, similarly decorated, by Mrs. Francis Welch. Assisting in serving were Miss Shirley Kay Hill and Mrs. Claude Beam. Throughout the Beam home ar rangements of white and red car ried out the Mother’s day theme Seventy-five members of the family and neighbors called from three until five during the after noon. PERSONALS Miss Sue Hunnlcutt and her college roommate, Miss Mary Hughes Gibbs, of Norfolk, Va., returned Sunday to Stratford Col lege in Danville, Va., after spend ing the weekend with Sue’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hun nicutt. Wesleyan Service Guild Has Installation Service The Wesleyan Service Guild of Grace Methodist church held a candle-light installation service Monday slight at the home of Mrs. Bill McGinnis, Mrs. Lena Fite and Mrs. Plato Heavener led the service in which the following officers were for mally inducted: President, Miss Jessie Jonas, vice-president, Mrs. Roy Lynn, secretary, Mrs. Joe Salmons, promotion chairman, Mrs. Norman Pusey, Treasurer, Mrs. Andy Huffstetler and com mittee chairman, Miss Peggy Ross. Following the presentation of officers, the hostess was assisted in serving cherry pie, sandwiches and potato chips to the members. Caldwell. Mrs. Caldwell, club president, presided over the business ses sion, and the devotional was gi ven by Mrs. Cairl Gantt. During the social hour, the hostess served a dessert course of strawberry chiffon pie and ac cessories with iced drinks. A Sunshine box was prepared for Mrs. John Mitehem, a former member, who is a patient in the Kings Mountain hospital. Mrs. Hinson Honored On Mother's Day The children of Mrs. M. A. Hin son surprised their mother on Mother's Day by all attending worship services at Grace Metho dist church, where Mrs. Hinson is a member, and later gathering , for picnic lunch. Dinner was served at the I. W. | Ledford home on York road, where Mrs. Hinson also makes her home. Present for the all-day family gathering, including the.morning I worship service, were Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hinson and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hinson and son, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Hin son, and family, all of Lancaster, S. C.; Mr. and Mrs. James L. Lu cas and Jerry, all of Kings Moun 1 tain. Also present for the occassion was a sister of Mrs. Hinson’s. I Mrs. NTeli Hollingsworth, of Char lotte. Ledford. i Dixon Student Places In Muffin Bake-Off Miss Gloria Diane Green, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Green, of the Dixon community, won third place in the county corn meal muffin bake-off con test at Mooresboro School Friday. The first place winner, who will represent the county in the district division of the contest, which is part of a North Caro lina 4-H Enriched Corn Meal Ac tivity program, was Deborah Wolfe of the Elizabeth school. Second place went to Gwen Bridges of Mooresboro. Gloria’s recipe for com meal muffins: 1 Yz cups enriched com meal J2 cup enriched flour 1 teaspoon salt 3 teaspoons baking powder 1 egg 112 -2 cups sweet milk 3 tablespoons, melted fat (Glo ria used Sunnyfield pure lard and greased her pans with Oris- - co) Directions: Mix dry ingredients together, after sifting three times; mix egg, milk, and melted fat and add all at once to dry mixture.
