A rumher of states have passed .Kind issues or pro vided special octdoor recreation funds to maUe certain that their citizen* will have plan's for out door recreation The .Vational Wildlife Federa tion and its stnte affiliate. N. C. Wildlife Federation, urges all citizens to join in the crusade. Reasonable people can advocate that provision for outdoor recre ation be considered in all devel opment proposals The* out-of-doors is part of our American tradition. The challenge is to make s in* that the outdoor heritage will ho available to all. Chairman Chester W. Arnold said. If you ai.d y ur family have found it difficult. over the past few years, to find a quiet, un erowded area to swim or picnic - imagine what citizens of the 2000 will expei ience when they have to compete Mith an addition al 180 million people for outdoor recreation sites. Adding to tins co'.tfusion will hi* the fact that people will have more free time, more money, and easier, faster tr cans of travel. Fortunately, we ran do some thing about this national problem if we act now. Tin- three-year study of the Outdoor Recreation Resources Review Commission has established guide lines and suggestions for providing the fu ture Outdoor Recreation needs of the American people. Here are the important steps that must be taMti: 1. Add I! ion.11 outdoor reerea tion areas should bo acquired promptly and protected. 2. More money is needed for <lcvelopm«*nt aril maintenan.'e. 3. The outdoor teoreation i>o tential of public lands and other government programs should he vigorously exnloited. I. We should make better use of what we already have. 3. A variety o f techniques should be devoioped to make pri vate land accessible for public recreation us*. ft. Metier organization and plan ning are need«xi. 7. Outdoor recreation resources should lie classified and managed to provide for a wide variety of activities and values.
