reason is over, the Athletics may finish ninth. The WASHINGTON SENATORS should hold their long lease on the second division, and should tn* battling the hapless Athletics for the upside-down top position. Next week, the National League, and predicting which team will finish atop there will l>e like trying to predict a Letter To Editor star? as Doug Moo, York La rose. Art lleyman, Jeff Mullins. Len Chap|iel. Billy Packer, Dave Wtideman. Larry Brown a ml mam more. But lhe lime has mine to voice my opinions and speak out to retruilrrs and coaches in ihe South to recruit Negro talent as well as the fine white talent that tu w suffice the teams. The b«*st example of Negro's being some of the best basket ball talent is by looking at the Associated Press top ten basket, ball teams. Six of the top lb teams wen1 integrated. Though I Hike and Kentucky were 3 & 4. only Duke made it to the finals. Kentucky got caught in the up set swirl and I< st to Onio U. and delending champion Lovala of Chicago in the Midwest Region a Is. I attend Compact High Sslrool. and am a second semester junior. I enjoy basketball to the fullest and would like to see it enriched furthci. I'm the only student in thi school of over 60ft pupils to pull fot an all white team. I know the South hasn't fully aivepted the Negro as an equal person but I would like to add. I have a few white friends. The following is an incident which happened recently. A friend of mine told me I couldn't play on his basketball court anymore be <*ause the neighbors didn't want Negroes around. I was shocked because I thought I was accepted as a person and not because of the color of my skin. I'm still a bonafide Duke fan and would like to s»*e them go all the wav next year, but North Carolina will block their path in Ihe East. Yours successfully, Carl Burris Editor's note: Athletics integration is very near in the South, and if you re call. Maryland University had a Negro football player last year. Tile state Universities ol the South will be the first to inte grate, and the dcnomonational schools will be close behind. I agree with vou. I think that athletic excellence should be re cognized by the coaches and re crullers in the South, hut, the At lantic Coast Conference has al ways hern among the best bask, ctball conferences in the United States i| you remember. t CI.A had an exceptionally fine basketball team and the p**ople of the South a"d espe. il ly of South Carolina, were proud of the Beaufort', S.
