"An inten sive advertising and public infor mation program will accompany the enrollment period, in order to tell the public about this new kind of health insurance protec tion for senior citizens.” The Virginia-North Carolina 65 Health Insurance . Association which is offering the plan, has headquarters in Richmond, Va. Dr. Knnion S. Williams is the as sociation president. Dr. Williams pointed out that legislatures of the* two states en acted the* laws required to permit the insurance industry to offer the plan. "This initial enrollment period represents our prompt im plementation o* the enabling le gislation," he explained. The* plan provides basic cover age at SX-.'iO monthly; supplemen tal major medical coverage at $9.50 monthly; and a combina tion of baatc and major medical for $1H monthly Residents of the two states 6ft and older are eligi ble for the insurance, plus the spouses of those who enroll, re gardless of age Insurance issued during the April 20-May 20 en rollment period will be effective June 1. No medical examination or health questionnaire will be re quired to secure the coverage. However, for a person who haa been confined to a hospital or nursing home or employed the services of a private duty nurse within the previous 31 days, cov erage will not be effective until the first day of the calendar mnnh following a continuous per iod of 31 days free of such con finement or nursing care. The identification files of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington now contain ap proximately 160.000.000 finger print records.
