Mrs. Thomas Marshall Carlisle Miss Kay McCarter, Thomas M. Carlisle Wed Sunday In Double-Ring Ceremony 'Miss Kay Yu von no .McCarter became the bride of Thomas Marshall Carlisle Sunday in a *1:30 pm. wedding in Central Methodist church. Rev. W. Maxtor Davis of Salix- j bury, groat unde of the bride- 1 groom, heard the exchange of vows, assisted by Rev. Howard Jordan, minister of the church. I using the double-ring ceremony.1 . Miss Mary Alice McDaniel was organist for the program of tra ditional music ami M. S. Peeler. Jr. was vocal soloist. Mr. peeler sang "O Perfect Love" by Gur-1 ney before the ceremony ami "A Wedding Benediction” by Ix*ve lace as the couple knelt at the attar. The church was decorattxl with Kentia palms as the background i for the lighted cross at the altar, a center basket of glads and chrysanthemums and numerous spiral candelabra holding lighted tapers. 'Miss McDaniel played a prelude of wedding music including: Avc Verum by Guttn<>d; The Rosary by Nevin-Rogers; The Sweetest Story Kver Told by Stulls; Ava Maria by Baclt-fiounod; Whither Thou Goes! by Singer; Reverie by Debussy; O Promise Me by I Scott-DeKoven; ami Berceuse by, Stickles. Hamby’s O Perfect Love was played during the ceremony and tin* classic marclies were played for processional and re cessional music. Kelly McCarter gave his daugh ter in marriage. The bride’s wed ding gown was a formal design of pistil tie soie and A Ion von lace and featured a scoop neckline writh long sleeves. A dix*p band of matching lace underlined the Em| pile bodice and the semi-bell skirt was accented by a Watteau train highlighted by a bow. Her triple tiered veil of French illusion wa draped from a tiered erowm of pearls and tiny pearl drop lets. She wore liny pearl earrings gift of the bridegroom, and car ried a cascade of jtom pons and stephanotis. Miss Gloria Dean McCarter attended her sister as maid of honor anti bridesmaids were Mrs. Hampton F. Ott. Jr. of Charlottt and 'Miss Freida McGinnis of Kings Mountain. The three attendants wore wait/-length gowns of aqua silk organ/a featuring an embroider-1 ed fitted bodice with short cap sleeves and scoop neckline with bell skirt. Their matching head pibces were aqua roses dropped With circular tulle veils, gifts of the bride, and they carried white cascade liouquets. Little Miss Lorie Jean Carlisle, niece of the bridegroom, was flo wer girl She wore a white em broidered organdy dress and car ried a basket of flower petals. I The gold clasp in her hair was a gift from the bride. James F. Carlisle of Greens boro was best man for his broth-1 er. The list of ushers included i James W. Black of Glover. S. O.. cousin of the bride. Douglas Car lisle of Shelhv, cousin of the bridegroom. George E. Long of Pineville and Hampton F. Ott. Jr. j of Charlotte. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. MeCarter chose a pink lace sheath over satin with matching accessories and a corsage of pink sweetheart rosea. The bridegroom’s mother wore beige lace over mbit satin with beige accessories and a corsage of yellow rosebuds. Mrs. J. & McCarter of Gastonia, grandmother of the bride, chose navy blue with matching acces sories and a corsage of white car nations. Miss Sandra Jean Lynn and Miss Doris Ann Black of Clover, S. C-. cousins of the bride, kept a guest register in the vestibule of the church where the bridal par ty formed a receiving line to greet wedding guests after the ceremony. RECEPTION The bride's parents were hosts at their home at an informal re ception for members of the wed ding party and out-of-town guests from Little Rook. Ark.. Atlanta. Ga., Raleigh. Greensboro, Salis bury, Charlotte, Gastonia. Wash i n g t o n. Rowland. Lincolnton, CherryvUle. Dallas, i^well. Bos tic. Shelby, Lattimore. North Ca rolina. Clover and Greenville, South Carolina. Overlaid with white floor length cloth, the bride's table held a tall white candelabrum holding pink baroque tapers and decora tive with frosted wedding bells and net. Green punch was served at one end of the table by Mrs. Grady McCarter from a punch bowl enterwined at the base with fig leaves and fresh white grapes. Green and white party eakes were served with the punch. The pink, white and green theme was beautifully carried out in decorative details'throughout the house. Bowls of white glads and light pink dahlias were used on mantels in reception rooms. For a trip to the North Caro lina mountains, the new (Mrs. Car lisle chose a baby blue dotted swiss sleeveless dress with white anti pink accessories and a pink rosebud corsage. BRIDE AND BRIDEGROOM Mr. and Mrs. Kelly McCarter of Kings Mountain are parents of the bride. A graduate of Kings Mountain high school and King's College of Charlotte, she is a med ical secretary at Charlotte Me morial hospital. She is a member of the Charlotte Medical Assist ants Association. She is grand daughter of John C- Owens of Kings Mountain and Mrs. J. S. McCarter of Gastonia. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard B. Carlisle of Paw Creek. A graduate of I West Mecklenburg high school of Charlotte, he attended the Univer years and received diplomas in B. A management and Junior ac counting from King’s college at Charlotte. At King's he was pres ident of Phi Theta Pi. interna tional honorary business frater nity. He is employed by Humble Ol| A Refining Company in Char lotte. Charlotte will be home for the newlyweds who will reside at SOI1 West Boulevard. Apartment 4. Two Church Groups Spend Weekend Retreat Several families representing Dixon and Northside Presbyter ian churches held a weekend re treat at Kings Mountain Presby t»*ry Camp near Saluda Saturday ami Sunday. Book Club Met Thursday Mrs. Grier Plonk was hostess to the Thursday Afternoon Book club held at her home on Moun tain street. Mrs. C. A. Butter worth presid ed at the business meeting in the absence of Mrs. E. W. Neal who is vacationing in Flat Rock. N. C. this summer. Guests who called from 7:30 until 9 o'clock showered the two brides-to-be with miscellaneous household gifts and the hostess es took the occasion to give them their wedding gifts and shoulder corsages of white car nations. Miss Ware, who will marry Toney Wells Saturday at 8 p.m. in First Baptist church, wore a printed dacron dress with orchid slippers. Miss Roberts, who will wed Douglas Eubanks August 8th in First Baptist church, wore a pink dress with matching ac cessories. The refreshment table was highlight of decoration. Overlaid with floor-length handmade lace cloth, the table held a mass ar rangement of all-white summer flowers. Mrs. Summitt is the former Janell Owens. * * * * In Honors Program Jane Birmingham. 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. V. Birmingham, Jr. of Kings Mountain, has been se lected by the Brevard Music Center to attend and partici pate in an honors program session which will be held for two weeks at the conclusion of the regular camp session. This new program will be open to specially selected su perior musicians from the reg ular Transylvania Music Camp student body and from the rosters of the Governor's Ho nor Schools of North Carolina and Georgia. The recommen dation for this concentrated period of musical study is on the basis of outstanding musi cal achievement and citizen ship and comes from the fac ulty with the approval of the Dean of Students. Club To Hold Calendar Canvass Junior Woman1* dub iwmMn will conduct the annual commu nity birthday canvass Monday night from 7 until 9 pm. and members are asked to gather at the clubhouse for street assign mens at 6:45 p.m. The calendar is the club's chief money-making project. It lists birthday and wedding anniversary dates as welt as advertising of business firms and meeting dates. Each listing is 25 cents and the calendar itself sells for 30 cents. Proceeds from the calendar project support the various cone munity projects of the women's organisation. Rev. James S. Mann, pastor of the church, officiated at the dou bib-ring ceremony. The church altar was arrang ed with palms and white flowers. The couple knelt for the benedic tion on a wrought-iron kneeling bench. Given in marriage by her fath er, the bride wore a waltz-length gown of white lace and bridal satin with short veil. She carried a white Bible topped with an or chid and showered with satin streamers. ! Miss Sharon Westbrook attend ed her sister as maid of honor. She wore a full-skirted blue or gandy dress with matching head piece dropped with flirtation veil and carried a bouquet of pastel flowers in shades of blue and pink. Steve Powbll. former college roommate of the bridegroom, was best man. Mr. and Mrs. Humphries have returned from a trip to the coast and are at home temporarily with the bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Humphries. The bride is a June graduate of Gas tonia’s Ashley high school. Her husband, a graduate of Grover high school, is a June graduate of North Carolina State of the Uni versity of North Carolina. He has accepted a position with The Hines Company. Barretts Return Home From Indiana Visit I Mrs. Jackie Barrett and chil dren, Cherry and David, return ed Sunday morning from a visit [ with Mrs. Barrett's father in 1 Corydon. Indiana.
