Fair Contests Entries Invited Knitters and crocheters in this area will have an oportunity din ing the Cleveland County Fair next month to qualify for com|ie t it ion in the 19KI national wool nei tile work contest sponsoied hy tile National Hand Knitting Yarn Association and the American Wool Council. To qualify for national compe tition, the individual must make a blue-ribbon showing in com|»e tition at the Cleveland County Fair, scheduled for Septemiier 22-20. First-place prize at the na tional level is $1,000 in cash, plus a trip to New York City and a three-day stay for two. as well as a special engraved trophy. Blue ribbon awards at thoShol by fair will lie made in six dif ferent categories, three each for knitters and crocheters. Watterson and related fami lies held their annual < Ian n union Sunday. August 16. in the building of the Rescue Squad and Fire Department in Grover. N. C. It was a tainy .lay for the oc casion. but tltc attendance was good, and was estimated at about 150 present. The large building accommodated the attendance so nicely to be an inside gathering due to enelement weather. North Carolina. South Carolina, Flotilla. Virginia. W. Virginia. Tennessee anil Texas were repre. sented. The business meeting got under way with .Miss Lynda Watterson. Kings Mountain, N. C., reading the minutes. Marshall Watterson. Dana, \*. C.. welcomed the guests. Holland P. Dixon. Shelby. N. C. was the guest speaker, and Bob bie Watterson, Grover, N. C. gave the Scripture reading and Invo cation. then returned thanks for the dinner, which was excellent and plentiful. It was announced that the pre sent officers were re-elected for Butler P. Dixon. Historian. Shelby. N. C. reported the new births deaths and marriages for the past year. The oldest person present was W. L. Watterson. Kings Mountain N. C. and the youngest was the little son.
