The new state estimates arc based on data recently reported by the U. S. National Health Survey, which showed 13.2 per cent of all adults in the Cnited States, including 21.1 pericnt of all Negro adults, had definite heart disease. Other North Carolina esti mates made public by the state heart group include lv‘7 thousand adults with definite hypertensive heart disease: 19 thousand a dulls with coronary heart dis ease; and 29 thousand adults with rheumatic heart disease. Since 1960. more than 90 thousand North Carolinians have died of cardiovascular disease over halt of all deaths in the state. Earlier estimates, based on out dated national population ' sample studies, had indicated 2f*t thousand men. women, and chil dren in North Carolina were af flicted by heart and blood vessel disease. The new information, released by the U. S.
