Fireman McKee At Convention Winston-Salem -- T. C. McKee of the Kings Mountain Fire De partment attended the 37lh an nual Fire College. For five days, May 21-28, fire men and Imlustrial representa tives from all areas of N’orth Carolina and neighboring states received instructions and study of the latest fire control meth ods. Over 500 firemen and indus trial representatives attended. The School was under thedirec- tion of C. L. Cox, Chief of the Durham Fire Department and Assistant Directors, Chief C. W. Wyrick, Greensb’oro North Car olina Fire Department and -Sher man A. Pickard. Director of Fire & Rescue Service Division, N. C. Department of Insurance, Ra leigh. N. C. It was sponsored by the North Carolina Slate Fire men’s Association. Chief G. E. Summerlin, Jr. of the Mount Olive Fire Department is Presi dent. The Industrial Fire Protection Division consists of a 30hour course covering Sprinklers, In dustrial Fire Problems, First Aid Fire Fighting Appliance, Setting Up and Organizing Industrial Fire Brigades and High Hazard Operations in Industry, prepar ing safety engineers and fire protection engineers to handle any particular inoblcms. Thi:i course was directed by .Mr. Joe Buchtler. Senior Fire Instructor at the University of Maryland. Mr. Bachtler dirc'ctcd this section last year at Charlotte with many favorable reports as to the re sults of his tearhings. Other divisions of the school were Fire R('st:ue, .Sprinklers, and Structural Fire Fighting. Instructors for the School come from the various Fire Depart- mc'nts over the state, each pro- i vidlng specialized instruction in Fire Control. .L. C.
