The unit desires new recruits who w’i4?h to satisfy their military service •obligations by joining the Navy, or ox-Navy men who have not yet I’eached age forty-five Recruits must be 17 years of age and a .senior in high school. Others, over 17, must not have passed their twenty - seventh birthday. Recruits will remain at the Shelby unit for one year — meeting once a week and then serve tw'o years of active duty wdth the Navy. After their tour of duty they may want to re-af- bp highlighted during the week including a reception at the Gov- ornor’s Mansion. filiate with ^he Shelby unit as I most returnees do. The Shelby Reserve unit is es pecially interested in petty offi cers and others who have long sinc-e completed their i*eqiuired service, but wish to come back into the Naval Reserve. If a ijer- son is not over forty-five, has served his "hitch” in the Navy but still desires the experiences j of Navy life, the "dobr.s are now ! open” for him to come back no i matter W'haf his rate. A man ’ may be over forty-five and still I ro-<*nlist by subtracting his total years active duty from his age. If the re.sult of this subtraction is forty-five or less lie is wel- i‘ome. For all who enlist or re-enlist there are only tw'o obligations— they must atlena drills once a week, and go to a Navy base or : ship for two w'eeks each year for 1 training. Regular Navy pay is ' received for each drill attended I and for each training duty per- • iod. For newly enlisted men they must still serve two years in the I active Navy of course. Ex-Navy menof World War II or of the Korean Conflict are eligible to "join-up” again and bo a part of the New Navy. Each man will be given the rate he came out of the Navy with and paid accordingly. Investigate by stopping by any Monday night during June from 7:00-10:00. J’he Reserve building is located on Highway 18, one mile north of Sh«^lby.
