Dr. Lesesne particularly em phasized that funds fram ihe federal government cannoi take the place of Living Endowment support. Alumni and friends of Erskine help provide current op erating funds for the college through the Living Endow-mem, which has earned Ei'skino four national aw'ards from the Amer ican Alumni Council. Seventy-one per cent of all Er skine alumni supported the col lege last year with gifts totaling $112,128. Continued outstandini^ support from alumni and friends through the Living Endowment figures proi.Tiifiently in Erskine’s budget projection through 1970 and its development plans for the 1965-75 decade, especially in its plans to raise faculty salaries substantially. The general solicitations phase of the annual alumni fund drive was scheduled to open Saturday, September 11, in Due West, with a workshop for chapter and di vision chairmen conducted by Everette Carson of Gastonia, N. C., overall chairman of the 1965- 66 Living Endowment; Mrs Win nie M. Phillips, Erskine alumni director; and Dr. Lt'sesne. General solicitations chairmen were to be instructed on cam paign procedures and the chal lenge gift that has been offered to the 194 towns and at-large | groups within Erskine’s 44 alum- | chapters. Each of these has . been challenged to equal either | their last year’s participation t record or that of their chapter, j whichever is higher.
