I Pdge 8 KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD. KINGS MOUKrTAIN. N. C. "Slap Sow" Will Result In High Yields North Carolina cotton growers can still realize the advantages of skip row planting in 1966 des pite a tightening of regulations which place a greater burden on available cropland. Under the new rules farm m planting in skip row will be charged with 30 per cent more land planted than in 1965 Thii \ ipplies to the most commonly used skip row patterns ?uca |^2xl or 2x2. The -1x4 pattern will "iflt be affected, I Last year a farmer could plani ■ in a 2x2 pattern with the land area measured as 50 per cent jlanted and 50 per cent u. plant 3d. Next year he will be chargt^d with 66?3 planted and 33*3 un planted. “This will virtually rule out skip row planting for the farm er who has very limited crop land,” explains Glenn Toomey. extension cotton specialist at North Carolina State University at Raleigh. “But the farmer who has enough idle land to absorb this increase caused by the change in regulations can profit by plant ing in skip row.” Toomey added, however, that skip row planting is not desira ble in every situation. “Skip row patterns are advantageous only on land that produces large cot ton plants with heavy foliage. There is little or no advantage in planting in skip row on land with a history of producing small plants.” The advantages of skip pat terns are the roomine.ss that al lows more sunlight in through heavy foliage and the freedom for roots to grow and reach plant nutrients and moisture. "Skip row will result in high er yields on land with a high po tential or on land with a history of growing large plants,” Toom ey asserted. I This was shown in research i plots at the Piedmont Agricul- , tural Research Station in Rowan ; County last season. Solid planted ; cotton produced 620 pounds per j acre; the 2x1 pattern produced | 705 pounds; and the 2x2 pattern | produced S65 pounds. • Each of these plots received nitrogen at the rate of 40 pounds per acre appliwl as sidedressing. With 60 pounds the solid planted NOTICE OF FORECLOSURE SALE NORTH CAROLINA. 'CLEVELAND COUaNTY. UNDER AND By Virtue of the power of sale contained in that certain Deed of Trust executed by John F.
