K. Mauney, Jr., was graduated Sunday from Stuart Hall, a preparatory school for young women in Staunton, Va. Her parents and other members of the family, Mary Leigh Mauney, rising sertior at Salem Academy In Winston Salem, Kemp Mauney, and Martha Jane •U" ■ Mauney, attended the week end commencement exercises, which began Fri- day, along with Mrs. Mau- * ney's mother, Mrs. Frances Howard Jackson. Members of the Kings Mountain high school graduat ing Class of 1941 will hold their 25th year reunion Saturday at a dinner-dance at the American Legion Hall. The festivities begin with dinner at 6 p.m. and reser vations should be made with I. Ben Goforth, Jr. or Mr^. Helen Ramsey Blanton by Friday. Miss Linda Pruitt and Lt. Curtis Floyd cut their wed ding cake at an after-rehearsal party Friday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Pruitt, brother and sister-in- law of the bride-to-be. on Groves street. Comings And Goings ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ Miss Mauney was commended for maintaining the highest scholastic average in chemistry. She was president of her riding club and active in other extra-curricula activi ties. She will be a freshman at Queen's college in Charlotte in September. Parties in Atlanta and Decatur, Ga. continue to honor Louzelle Smith, whose wedding to Elbert Durden of Atlanta, takes place Saturday in Central Methodist church here. Forty guests showered Miss Smith with miscellaneous household gifts at a luncheon and Shower Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. O'Kelley in Decatur. A color note of green and white was carried out in decorations. Mrs. O'Kelley presented the brde-elect a white carna tion shoulder corsage. Mr, and Mrs. Wilbur G. Smith, parents of the bride- elect, and their son, David, spent the weekend in Decatur, going especially for the party in Miss Smith's honor. The green and yellow theme of the wedding was car ried out in decorative details, A three-tier cake was center- piece for a round refreshment table coverd with nile green tulle and taffeta. Marine Lt, Floyd, used his sword to cut the first slice of cake which was served to guests by Mrs. Betty Webster of Gastonia. Mrs. Katie' Pruitt, the bride-elect's aunt, served'punch at a second table decorated in green and yellow. \ Miss Pruitt wore an apricot cocktail d^e5s. She and her fiance took the occasion to present gifts to their attend ants. Miss Gale Farris is spending two weeks in Sumter, S. C. with her sister, Mrs. Ray Carroll, Sgt. Carroll and sons, Edwin and Timmy. The Carrolls spent the weekend vvith rela tives, coming especially for commencement exercises, Fri day night. Mrs. Carroll's brother, Paul Farris, was a mem ber of the graduating class. Also coming especially for KMHS finals exercises at City Stadium were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Spearman and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thomas of Hendersonville. Pete Owens, bro ther of Mrs. Spearman and Mrs. Owens, was among the 192 seniors receiving diplomas. Her bouffant veil of imported silk illusion was at tached to a tiered crown of pearls and crystals, and she carried a white Bible topped with a white orchid showered with stephanotis and satin streamers. Mrs. Kenneth Pruitt, sister-in- law of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Beth Bartlett of Spruce Pine, former college roommate of the bride; Miss Wanda Phelps of Winston Salem, and Miss Bever ly Herndon of Kings Mountain. The empire bodices were styled with scoop necklines and elbow - length sleeves. A five-branched silver candela brum at thie center of the table was arranged with candles, daisy mums and baby’s breath. Punch was served from a silver serv ice at one end of thb table. Sprays of greenery and gypso- philia caught up the comers of the floor-length table cloth. Oth er arrangements combined white flowers and gypsophila in two- tiered crystal compottes. Miss Joy Miller of Belmont, whose wedding to Ronnie Cole of Kings Mountain takes place June 26, was honor guest at a luncheon Thursday at Kenyon’s Caterers in Belmont. Hostess was Miss Libby Hol- shouser of Cramerton who will be a bridesmaid in the wedding. The 13 guests were served a three-course luncheon from T- shaped tables decorated with asters and miiced summer flow ers. Miss Miller’s place was marked by a corsage of carna tions and a gift of china in her pattern. Members brought a shower of Infant gifts for the Children’s" Home. Miss Hasty reviewed “a day’s activities in the Charlotte office” talked of placement of an adopt ed child; visits of parents and caseworkers; and visits to older children who are placed in fos ter homes.
