be crowned in a Jaycee-sponsor-
•d beauty pageant Thursday (to
night) at 7:30 in Central Audi
torium.
The reigning Miss North Car
olina, Nannette Minor of Char
lotte, and ,the reigning Miss
Kings Mountain, Linda Sherrer,
will participate in the festivities
which will crown Kings Moun
tain’s representative in the Miss
North Carolina pageant of 1967.
Miss Kings Mountain 1966 will
receive a $200 scholarship from
the Jaycees, a trophy and other
valuable prizes from merchants.
Trophies and prizes will also
go to the runners-up and win
ner O'! the “Miss Congeniality’’
award. All eight contestants will
receive prizes from downtown
merchants.

Crash Victim
Had Local Kin
Charles C. Warren, Jr., 42,
Shelby native among 18 persons
killed Saturday night in the
crash of a West Coast Airlines
DC9, was a nephew of Mr. and
Mrs. D. Gail McDaniel of Kings
Mountain.
Warren was flight director for
the airlines and was on the trip
as an observation pilot.
The crash in rugiged terrain
about 39 miles southeast of Port
land, Oregon, was the first
crash to take lives of passen
gers in the 20-year history of
the airline which is a feeder
route operating principally in
the Pacfic Northwest.
Warren, a 1941 graduate of
Shelby high school, had been
associated with the airlines since
its founding. He was one of five
crew members killed along with
13 passengers.
Other survivors include his
wife and three children, all of
Seattle, Washington; his mo
ther, Mrs. B. C. McDaniel of
Shelby; and his grandmother,
