Miles Mauney Gives Concert; Party Time; Student Honored; e Announced Miles Mauney, concert pianist and professor of music ^-at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, was presented in a piano concert Friday evening at Lenoir Rhyne college in Hickory. His parents, Mr. ancflvlrs. W. K. Mauney, Sr. of Kings Mountain; Mr. and Mrs. David Mauney and children, Eddie, Kenny and Sarah Jane; Mrs. W. K. Mauney, Jr.; her daugh ter, Martha Jane and Mrs. Mauney's mother, Mrs. Frances West; John N. Roper, III, student at St. Andrew's College who accompanied the Mauney's daughter, Sarah Frances, student at Queen's College; Mrs. J. B. Simpson; Mrs. P. D. Herndon and Mrs. Martin Harmon attended the concert which included works by Haydn, Schumann and Chopin. Mauney, formerly of Kings Mountain, toured the world with his twin brother, Ernest Brent Dwam Bingham, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Bing- ham, Jr., will celebrate his - second birthday on Friday, November Nth. A small : family party is planned. Young Bingham is grand- ’ son of Mr. and Mrs. Evetiette A. Bingham, Sr. of Kings ' Mountain. His mother is the former Letha Walker. Mauney. They became known widely as ide'htical twin duo- pianists who could perform on identical pianos with pre cision. Since his brother's death in 1959, Miles Mauney has studied at Aspen, Col. with Madame Lhevinne and earned his master's degree at Columbia Teacher's college. He taught at the University of Illinois for one year and the University of .Minnesota for one year before moving to Oberlin in 1963 as assis tant professor of Pianoforte. He has continued his solo performances as well as playing with chamber ensembles. During the summer of 1963 he played the Mozart "Coronation" concerto withe the University of Minnesota summer Orchestra. He and his wife, Dorothy, have also done Sonato programs. Also present for the fam ily party will be Brent's oJd- er brother, Gary. A decorated birthday cak^ nd served with will be cut a ice cream. Mary Leigh Mauney, Kings Mountain senior at Salem Academy in Winston Salem, has been ebcted president of Salem Academy's I 10-voice Glee club for the coming year. Student elections were held on Tuesday. Miss Mauney will also serve as chairman of Salem s social committee for next year.
