Miles Mauney Gives Concert; Party Time; Student Honored;

Miles Mauney, concert pianist and professor of music
^-at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, was presented in a piano
concert Friday evening at Lenoir Rhyne college in Hickory.
His parents, Mr. ancflvlrs. W. K. Mauney, Sr. of Kings
Mountain; Mr. and Mrs. David Mauney and children, Eddie,
Kenny and Sarah Jane; Mrs. W. K. Mauney, Jr.; her daugh
ter, Martha Jane and Mrs. Mauney's mother, Mrs. Frances
West; John N. Roper, III, student at St. Andrew's College
who accompanied the Mauney's daughter, Sarah Frances,
student at Queen's College; Mrs. J. B. Simpson; Mrs. P. D.
Herndon and Mrs. Martin Harmon attended the concert
which included works by Haydn, Schumann and Chopin.
Mauney, formerly of Kings Mountain, toured the world
with his twin brother, Ernest
Brent Dwam Bingham, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Bing-
ham, Jr., will celebrate his
- second birthday on Friday,

Mauney. They became known
widely as ide'htical twin duo-
pianists who could perform
on identical pianos with pre
cision.
Since his brother's
death in 1959, Miles Mauney
has studied at Aspen, Col.
with Madame Lhevinne and
earned his master's degree at
Columbia Teacher's college.
He taught at the University
of Illinois for one year and
the University of .Minnesota
for one year before moving
to Oberlin in 1963 as assis
tant professor of Pianoforte.
He has continued his solo performances as well as
playing with chamber ensembles.
During the summer of 1963 he played the Mozart
"Coronation" concerto withe the University of Minnesota
summer Orchestra. He and his wife, Dorothy, have also
done Sonato programs.

Mary Leigh Mauney, Kings Mountain senior at Salem
Academy in Winston Salem, has been ebcted president of
Salem Academy's I 10-voice Glee club for the coming year.
Student elections were held on Tuesday.
Miss Mauney will also serve as chairman of Salem s
social committee for next year.

46th wedding anniversary today. Mrs. Hambright'amj

eran's Hospital at Oteen with Mr. Hambright, a patient

Mr., Hanribright has been seriously ill for several weeks,
Mrs. Hambright, the former Ethel Howell, and Mr.

Spartanburg, S. C. The Hardins are formerly of Kings

Mrs. George Stewart is spending the week In Atlanta,
Ga. with Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Carter. The Carters spent
the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Baxter Smith, coming es
pecially for Mr. Smith's birthday dinner on Sunday. Mrs.
Carter is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Stewart is
niece of the Smiths.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl F. Mauney of Kings Mountain an
nounce the marriage of their daughter, Sarah Katherine,
to William Thomas Berkley, III. The wedding took place Oc
tober 28th in York, South Carolina.
Mr. Berkley Is the son of Dr. and Mrs. William T. Berk
ley, Jr. of Charlotte.
The Rev. Charles W. Easley, pastor of the bride, per
formed the^.Service of Blessing a Civil Marriage at the
home of the bride's parents on Saturday afternoon, No
vember 5th, at 4 o'clock.
The bride is a graduate of Kings Mountain high school.
She attended Lenoir-Rhyne college at Hickory and grad
uated from Kings Business College in Charlotte. She is em
ployed at Shamrock. Leasing Corporation In Charjotte.
The bridegroom graduated from Myers Park high

ents, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Howard.

tain, and Mrs. Marvin Morrison of Shelby spent Sunday at
Fort McClellan, Alabama.
They visited Army Pvts. Quay Moss, Reger Dellinger,
David Butler, Butch Broome and Marvin Morrison.
