Hinson, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. V. Hinson of 312 N. Piedmont Ave., Kings Mountain, N. C., is on duty at Bien Hoa AB, Vietnam. Airman Hinson, an air freight specialist, Ls a member of the Pacific Air Forces. Before his arrival in Vietnam, State Commander Conway Newsome of Goldsboro was the principal speaker and presented a special V. F. W. Congressional Cap to Whitener in behalf of the local, state and national organi zations. In presenting the award to Whitener, Newsome said, “The V. F. W. doe snot lightly confer this honor upon a member of Congress. Our national organiza tion bases tlie award upon serv ice of significant value to the to rne that lie has been a mem ber of our organization since 1944 and has worn the uniform of our country in combat just as those of us who honor him tonight." Q I recently got out of a Vet erans Administration hospital after being confined there mott' than a month for treatment for a disability not related to my military service. Is it true that 1 am entitled to payment from VA for this period since I was hos pitalized for more than 1 consec utive days? and came out without a scratch. However, I am now disabled as a result of an accident. Am I ene- titlcd to a pension? A—Not according to the facts stated. One of the requirements .or a nonservice-connected pen sion is that the veteran have at least 90 days of continuous ac tive duty, any part of it during a wartime period, or be separat ed from wartime service for a disability incurred in service in the lino of duty. Post ex pressed appreciation to Comman der Newsome for the recognition Ix'ing given to Whitener, a mem ber of his post. Mauney said that, “We appreciate the fact that Congressman Whitener has al ways kept our post and the other veterans of his district fully in formed on veterans’ le.’islation. He has consistently understood and appreciated the needs of veterans." Approximately two hundred members of the V. F.
