Scales, 22,• son of Mrs. Fred K. Stroupe of Route 1, and husband Of the former Miss Linda Hutchins of Route 2, all of Bessemer City, N. C., was promoted to liis pre.sent rank while sersing with the Fir.st ilarine Division in Vietnam. His promotion was ba.sed on time in service and rank, military experience, and his knowledge of selected military subjects. As a member of the division his primary mission is to .seek out and destroy the enemy. He helps conduct day and night patrols, set up ambushes and conduct both large and small scale combat op erations in hostile territory. His unit is also engaged in a Civic action program designed to assist the Vietnamese people in eompleting .self-help projects, such as the building of wells, culverts, small bridges and schools. Equip ment and materials are made available through the Marine Corps Reser\’e Civic Action Fund. Dear Sir: The Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department wishes to express their appreciation for the publicity you gave us concerning our most recent event — The Womanless Wedding — featuring The Oak Oreve Ramblers. It was a tremen- dou.s succa'ss. The event netted over $450.00 for the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department with tire Oak Grove Ramblers taking no fee for their performance.
