These women attended a spe-’
ciai interest meeting on “Wall-,
papers and Wallcoverings," spon
sored by the members of Elxten-

At the session, a wholesale:

on the manufacturer of wallcov-,

showed the basic tools needed, j

Orange County.
One Orange County liomemak-
er, Mrs. Wiley Perry is a knitting
enthusiast. And she has been en
couraging the women of her com
munity to knit socks for soldiers
in Vietnam. |
"Knitting is very simple to do,"
Mrs. Perry says, “and every
woman feels she is giving a part!
of herself when she makes the;
socks."
TAKE TIME TO LEARN |
Modern appliances aren’t aj
convenience unless the homemak-j
er spends some time learning j
how to use them, believes Brenda
K. Smith, assistant home econom-i
ics Extension agent, Scotland!
County. I
In fact, the agent says, thel
willingness to experiment is thei
dividing line between the buyer
and the consumer.
If a homemaker has had an
appliance for four or five years
and has never taken it out of the
box, the chances are that appli
ance will never be very useful.
Unless one is willing to use
his imagination and spend some
time experimenting, a time sav-
rug device can be worthless, the
agent asserts.
Homemakers in Scotland Coun
ty, recently attended a workshop
on the use of small appliances,
including the blender.
“They wore given some help-;
ful hints,” Miss Smith says. "But
the ladies will still do well to ex
periment on their own," she adds,|

Biologists at Belt Laboratories
had a “big" problem recently
when they found themselves with
40 pounds of surplus whale meat
on their hands. They needed just
a few pounds of it for their hemo
globin research, but the Canadian
supplier refused to ship anything
less than 40 pounds. What to do
with the extra meat? After some
thought, the scientists decided to
I try to eat the meat — it has

steak. At last report, they had
chewed their way through only
one-third of it.
