Thompson, son of Mrs. Bertie E. Thompson of 604H E. Church St., Cherry- ville, N. C., is a member of a unit that has earned the U. S.' Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. Sergeant Thompson, an aircraft loadmaster in the 3rd Aerial Port Squadron at Pope AFB, N. C., will wear the distinctive service rib bon to mark his E^filiation with the unit. His unit was dited for meritori ous service from July 1967 to June 1968. It is part of the Tacti cal Air Command which provides combat units for air support of U. S. ground forces. The sergeant attended Central High School, Kings Mountain, N. C., and completed requirements for his diploma after entering the service. He has completed a tour of duty in Vietnam.
