NEW YORK — Retirement is a
bi|» event in a man’s life, yet
when the moment comes, it near
ly always fakre him by surprise.
If he feels simply hurt, or eoni-
plctely bowled over, it's still his
wife who’s left holding the bag.
Very little is usually said a-
oout the problems a wife faces
when her husband retires. Ac
cording to .speieialist Max Wylie,
retirement is "mueh tougher” on
the wife than it is on the hus-

Wylie tells wliy the wife suffers
most, and gives the ladies sev
eral pieces of practical advice
which should help ease their
burden.
To Mr. Wylie, the most surpris
ing thing is how poorly prepared
most men — and their wives —
are when retirement comes. It
overtakes most people too quick
