Elizabeth Elementary School in
Shelby. The family resides in
Shelby.
The young personable
educator says his first real love
is "teaching” and his second
love is directing church music,
which he finds a rewarding
experience at Lily Memorial
Baptist Church in Shelby. He
recently led a 20-member youth
group on a 12-day religious
music "experience” to Haiti and
“really learned to rough it”, he
said. The young people per
formed in nine areas a religious
musical program in the coun
tries of Jamaica, Haiti, and
Dominican Republic. In addition
to serving as church youth
director, he also Is church
organist, Sunday School and
Training Union teacher, and
deacon.
Playing tennis, baseball,
guitar and swimming and fishing
with his young son are his
hobbles, he says.
Mr. Nanney advocates “team
teaching” and- the "basics of
education” and plans workshops
for teachers using some of the
guidelines he initiated in
guidance and counseling at
Central and KMJH, em
phasizing individual and group
counseling, lots of work with
parents, and individual and
group testing, also working with
teachers in instructional
program and in development of
curriculum materials, work
sheets and activity sheets.
Anxious to get Involved in the
community affairs, Mr. Nanney
led a P-TA meeting on his first
day of his new Job last Thursday.
Supt. Donald Jones com
mended Principal Evans for a
"Job well done” and welcomed
Mr. Nanney. He noted that
renovaticm at Bethware School is
complete with 11 new
classrooms, a new office, media
center, cafeteria, health room,
and two “reading pits.” TTie old
economics building and canning

Rep. James Broyhill is guest
speaker at today's Kings
Mountain Rotary Club luncheon
at the country club.
The 10th Congressional District
representative Is seeking his
eighth term in Washington in the
Nov. 2 general election.
Carl DeVane, program
chairman for Rotary, arranged

ties, Dr. Hunt said "what we
hear the most is about the
general loss at confidence In
government and present
leadership. People are not
asking for anything in particular
except that they truly be
represented In Washington. The
people are feeling left out of the
scheme of things and It bothers
them a great deal.”
Hunt said the Harris Poll
recently Indicated that two out of
three Americans feel they have
lost their voice In Washington.
People, by and large, feel the
system Is alrlf^t and want to
make It work.
“I consider myself a citizen-
legislator, in that order,” Himt
said. "I believe I can restore
some of the lost confidence In our
government among the people.
“Our district Is made up of
people from farming
backgrounds, people who are en
gaged In farming now, plant
workers, small businessmen and
professional men,” he said. “I
have a unique background In
that I came from a farming
family, I am engaged in farming
now. I lived In a plant village for
10 years In a company owned
house. I do own and operate five
small businesses and I am a
trained professional man. I think
this background does enable me
to relate to the general
population of the district.”
Hunt said he has been
reassured during this campaign
there are many, many people
"out there with good common
sense, Judgement and concern
for others. Patriotic people. I
think if our leaders would simply
follow the Instincts of the people
that our nation would be better
off.
"This Is what I hc^e to be able
to do,” Dr. Hunt said. “To bring
Washington closer to the
people.”
