F&ge 8A—MIRROR-HEItAU>—Thundky, Augnat 11, 1976 To City Commissioners Beautification Study, Projects Are Proposed Monday night Kenneth Bell, a member of the Crawford Murphy ar chitectural firm of Shelby, presented a proposed plan for action by the city’s beautification com mission. BeU told the board the plan Includes a guideline for the commission's use and a method of keeping a written record of projects and progress. "The second part of the manual lists a series of projects for the com mission to undertake during the next three to four years," he said. One of these, he said, includes planting a certain type of tree along the Southern Railroad light of way. He said the railroad officials have agreed to allow this work to be done. The architect said the railroad officials were "Impressed” with the amount of work Included In the study and how much effort had been expended to ensure the railroad company rights are not violated. Bell, accompanied by Mrs. George Houser and Mrs. J. B. Hemdon,Jr., co- chalrpersons of the commission, told the board copies of the manual would be made and presented to commissioners for ap proval or modification at a future meeting. ELECT HELEN S. Mayor Moss said this Includes a state grant of $6,000, with the city’s share totaling $7,000, which la to be paid out of Community Development Block Grant funds. The contract Is for a three-phase program; community facilities plan, housing assistance plan and a land development plan. —Awarded a contract for approximately 1,000 feet of fencing to be In stalled at the leased depot property to Allison Fence Co. of Charlotte. The - Allison bid was $7,993. The project costs are covered under the Community Development grant. Received a copy of proposed rules and regula tions for the Kings Mountain Fire Depart ment from Chief Gene Tlgnor. The proposal will be placed on the next regular meeting agenda for action. —Received the tltte to a 1930 model LeFrance Fire Truck from Fireman Charles Peterson. This truck was the first piece of equipment purchased by the KM fire department and was sold In 1067 and re purchased In 1076 to be placed In the historical fire museum. The cost was $1,600 and the money was raised by firemen. Junior firemen and citizens. —Adopted a new set of minimum standards for police department ap plicants drawn and sub mitted by Police Chief Earl Lloyd. —Approved a petition request from 13 lan downers on Sipes St. from Goforth to Edgemont St. for curbing Improvements. -Authorised advertising for bids on two half-ton pickup trucks for use by the strret and electrical departments. —Authorized bid ad vertisements for a vibrating roller for use In pavement patching for the street depsutment. — Authorized ap pointment of a traffic flow committee conalstlng of three commissioners and four businessmen In the community.
