Ray Holmes With Fiber 25 Years Two employes of the Shelby Plant of Fiber Industries, Inc., have cele brated 26 and 80 year serv ice anniversaries even though the Shelby Plant and Fiber Industries still are several years shy of their 20th birthdays. Woods of 842 Clrclevlew Dr. In Shelby qualified for their long-term service awards on the strength of previous service with Imperial Chemical Indus tries, Ltd. (ICI) and 62.6 percent by Celanese Corp., a United States petro chemical company. Woods, who Joined ICI In 1946, and Holmes, who joined the British firm In 1961 received their service awards Tuesday evening at a North Lake Club din ner hosted by Shelby Plant Manager Gene LeGrand. LeGrand cites Woods work In the areas of polymer blending, poly mer drying and handling as having made "major technical contributions” to the attainment of Im proved filament yarn dye uptake uniformity and the development of new and improved blending facili ties at the Shelby Plant and other FII manufacturing locations. Woods Is a native of Scotland —his wife, Marie, Is En^lsh — an avid golfer and a consistently active member of the FII Em ploye Recreation Club. He and his wife have two sons, Ian and Paul. Holmes, a graduate member of the United Kingdom's Institute of Mechanical Engineers, transferred from ICI Into a research and development edacity at the Shelby Plant In 1961. Since 1969, he has served In quality as surance and process Im provement positions In the quality control depart ment. Holmes and his wife, Sylvia, became United States citizens earlier In this bicentennial year. Both are active In Kings Mountain-area civic ac tivities, Including the little theater. He Is a past president of the FII Em ploye Recreation Club. Holmes Is credited by LeGrand with a "note worthy achievement" through his coordination of the development and Implementation of a com puterized spun yarn tes ting system at the Shelby plant. "That project," explains LeGrand, "Is considered to be a signifi cant corporate success In computer utilization.” Holmes currently Is Involved In the de velopment of another process computer system which recently took him to Japan. He and his wife have two children, a son, Chtds, and a daughter, Lindsay.
