Mary Viola and Charlie
Benton have been married
B2 years and enjoy "doing
things together.”
The active Grover senior
citizens didn’t stop with
retirement seven years
ago. Most days you can
find them sitting astride
twin riding lawn mowers
and cutting grass at flve-
acre Grover Cemetery or
at sites of 10 well-
manicured lawns In the
Grover area.
"We stay busy with our
new jobs but we love It,”
says Mrs. Benton, the
former Mary Viola Adams.
Mrs. Benton will cele
brate her 73rd blrdiday
next month. Mr. Benton
will be 74 In December.
When the Bentons aren’t
busy at their grass-cutting.
Mrs. Benton stays busy In
the kitchen. She and her
daughter, Mary Lou
Adkins, have canned and
frozen vegetables all
summer and their freezers
are filled with goodies they
will enjoy during the
winter months. Mrs.

honored on their wedding
day Oct. 2 at a bridesmaids
luncheon at 11 a. m. In
Salisbury. Entertaining
together were Mrs. Paul
Campbell of China Grove
and Mrs. Scott Herbe of
Palmyra, Pa.
U-shaped tables were
covered with white cloths
and arranged with bou
quets of pink and white
flowers. Bridal place cards
and rice tied In net with
pink bows marked the
places of guests.
Following luncheon,
Mrs. Herbe, former col
lege roommate of the
bride-to-be, offered a toast
to the bride.
Guests were the brides
maids, sisters of the bride-
elect and future bride
groom, and Mrs. Wayne
Patterson, stepmother of
the bride-elect, Mrs. D. F.
Hord, mother of the
biidegroom-to-be and Mrs.
J. Byron Keeter, grand
mother of the brldegroom-
to-be.
’The hostesses gave the
bride-elect a corsage and
wedding gift.

church sextons at Antioch
Baptist CSiurch of which
they are active members.
They keep the church
spotless and also are In
charge of maintaining the
cemetery grounds.
Mr. Benton, who retired
at age 66 as watchman at
Grover Industries, Is a
retired farmer and native
of the Grover area. He has
also worked for Childers
Roofing In Kings Mountain
and Archdale Dairy-
Farms In Grover. Mrs.
Benton Is also a native of
Grover and has always
worked "along side her
husband” In the fields.
