He was the only Mountaineer to win his weight class. Oordon pinned David Cionlnger of North Oaston In 30 seconds In his opening match, pinned David Cris well of East Oaston In the semi-finals and pinned Troy Leeper of South Point In the championship round. Kings Mountain finished ^ fifth In the seven-team field. Ashbrook won the team title, followed by East Oaston, South Point, Hunter Huss, Kings Moun tain, North Oaston, and Crest. The Mountaineers had several other wrestlers to finish high In their In dividual weight classes. Ttan Spicer was second In the 186-pound class, Law yer Lewis was third In the 136 pound division, Tim Mltchem wsm fourth In the 132 weight class, Charles Jenkins fourth at 147 and Norman PhlUlps fourth at <187. Kings Mountain’s girls pulled away In the fourth quarter Friday at home and defeated East OiMton 68-60 while the Bast OsMton boys csune from behind In the second half to defeat the Mountaineers 70-64. Susan Mltchem, who sat out much of the first three periods with a twisted ankle, scored nine of her 16 points In the fourth period as the Mountalnsttas Kathy Brooks her first vic- tory. lOngs Mountain built up a 38-17 halftime lead but the Lady Warriors battled from behind to tie the game at 89-all with 6:13 to go. That’s when Mltchem and Company went to work. The KMHS senior had plenty of scoring help from Ju4y Henderson wUli 14 backer with 18 and Oayla Roberts with 13. Arlene Brown’s 18 points paced the Bast Osurton team. Klnga Mountain’s boys held a 39-37 halftime edge but Marcus Jeter led a sec ond half comeback that won It tor the Warriors. R-8 OMrtral won a 7648 dsdslon. - Blalock Wednesday night at the KMHS gym, but the local teams still came out losers against a pair of R-S Oentral teams which are being tagged as South western Conference contenders. The Hilltoppers brought two tall and talented outfits here for the SWC openers but had to fight until the final busser be fore pulling out a 74-71 win In the girls game and a 76- 66 verdict In the boys contest. Ktaiga Mountain’s girls battled from 13 points down In the second half to pull wlthtai three In the fbial three minutes. But the Mountalnettes missed several free throw <9- portunltles and two ahnost-sure layups and never could come any ekwer. The game matched two of last year’s leading scorers, Ronda Littlejohn of the Lady Hilltoppers and Busan Mltchem of the Mountalnettes. Littlejohn won that battle, outacoring Om talented KMHS senior, Sr to 36 points. Three other players hit hi double figures for the winners, Dorothy Miller getting 16, Trlcla Martin 14 and Sheila Hamilton 18. Judy Henderson scored 12 and Oayla Roberts 11 to give the Mountalnettes throa double dlgK scorers. R-S jumped to a 12-polnt halftime lead, 86-24, but the Mountalnettes cut three points off that margin and were behind by only 64-46 after three periods. They then stole the ball several times In the final period, Mltchem getting several layups and Henderson adding two bas kets on some good Inside moves to cut the difference to three. KMHS went to the foul line several times with a chance to slice even more points off the R-S lead, but couldn’t connect.
