Q. How does a supermarket order its merchandise? R. R.
A. Food Town has its own warehouse (Save-Rite) which orders
in carload quantities strictly for Food Town Stores. Tte
individual store orders on a magnetic tape which is transmit
ted by telephone. It takes less than one minute to transfer a
2,000 case order.
Q. Food Town ads state that customers save more money by
shopping there. How?
A. Food Town prices are approximately 7% below other super
market chains. Said another way, this means in a Food Town
store doing $100,000.00 per week, their customers in that one
store will save approximately $7,000.00 each week. This
means Food Town customers have this extra $7,000.00 per
week to spend.
Q. I really appreciate Food Town’s low prices and shop there
because of them; but I wish you had delicatessens in your
stores. Is there a reason why you don’t? L. R.
A. Food Town has operated stores with delicatessens and stores
with no delicatessens. Very few companies have ever operated
a Deli profitably and that is the reason so few stores have
them.
Q. How many new items are offered each year in the average
supermarket? Where does the room for putting them on the
shelves come from? S. A.
A. Thousands of new items are presented each year. In most
cases, where an item is added, an item is dropped to provide
room.
