The Mountalnettes carried an 11-8 SWC record Into their regular season finale against Crest last night at the KMHS gym, and that marie had them In fifth place In the 13-team standings. The boys were B-14 and In lOth place. Only the top eight clubs qualify tor the tourney. The Mountalnettes’ final standing could be as high as fourth place and as low as seventh, thus, their opening round playoff foe was undetermined at the time of this writing. The tournament opens Wednesday »t 6 p. m. with the number fourth emd fifth place girls teams playing. The number one girls team. North Gaston, plays the number elg^t team at 6:30 p. m. Crest, the number one boys team, plays the num ber eight team In the 8 p. m. nlghtceq). Three semi-finals games wlU be pUyed on Saturday, beginning at 6 p. m., and the boys and girls Jamerson Is Top Wrestler Kings Mountain’s Maurice Jamerson copped the outstanding wrestler trophy at the Rock Hill Open Tournament last weekend at Sullivan Junior High School. The 147-pounder, who was undefeated for two years for the Kings Mountain Junior High grapplers, won five matches en route to the tttle. One other KM grappler, 138-pound Johnny Ross, won his weight class with seven straight victories. Several other KMers had high finishes In the event, which drew over 800 Junior high age wrestlers from the two Carolliuui. Terry McClain finished second in the 80-pound class, Robert Oates was third at 100 pounds, Kevin Hood third at 101, Darryl Brown third at 170 and Chuck Price third at 184. Todd Bell was fourth at 140 and Bernard Womack fourth at 107. Most of the wrestlers from KM performed for the KM Junior High team this winter, but they en tered the Rock Hill tour nament as Individuals and not as a school. Junior High athletic rules prohibit wrestling tournaments. champlanrii4> games will be played on Monday, beginning at 6:80. The regular season champicn North Gaston girls and Crest boys will automatically qualify for the Western N. C. High Schools Association tourney, which begins next Wednesday at Catawba College. They will be Joined by the tournament winners. Should the regular season winners also win the tounuunent, the tourney runners-up will qualify for the association event. Kings Mountain’s girls are probably hoping for a sixth or seventh place seeding, as diat would put them In the bracket op posite North Gaston. In that event, the Moim- talnettes could win their first two gamea, and pro viding North Gaston wins Its first two, would auto matically qualify for the association tournament. However, a fourth or fifth place seeding for the Mountalnettes, and an opening round victory, would put the KMHS ladles against the Lady Wildcats in the second round on Friday. The Mountalnettes dropped a one-point decision to CherryvUle Friday afternoon on the road, 68-53. It was only the second wbi of the season for the Ironwomen. Kings Mountain’s boys won their fifth game hi the nightcap, 68-68. The Mountalnettes held a 38-37 halftime edge but a miserable third quarter, when they scored only seven points, led to their downfall. CherryvUle came on to lead by 40-86 after three periods and managed to atay ahead In the final eight minutes. Lynette Roberts of the Ironwomen was the game’s top scorer with 18 points. Susan Mltchem scored 14, Priscilla Rlckenbacker 13 and Judy Henderson 11 for the Mountalnettes.
