Pinewood Derby Is Held Ihe first annual Blue and Gold Banquet and Pinewood Derby for CUb Scout Pack M was held last Tuesday In the ’ Oak Orov* Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. One hundred parents and scouts attended the banquet and enjoyed the buffet meal. The new cub scout pack waa formed last October with Oak Qrove Baptist Oiurch as the sponsoring agency. Last month the pack presented the charter to the church. At last Tuesday’s meeting Cubmaster Jacob Oreene was presented a certificate of eppreclatlon for his work with the youngsters from the Kings Mountain area. For the month of March the pack elected six youngsters to serve the three dens and Denners and Assistants. Den 1 the Denner Is Terry Ccnner and assistant Is Doug Sanders; Den 3 — John Webster and 'Neat An thony :jhi4 Den 8 — Roger Eddliis and Kevin Champion. The Denners and assistants will help the Den Mothers prepare for the weekly meetings In the various homes for the month of March. Following the banquet the scouts partlc4>ated In a Pinewood Derby using model cars the scouts themselves had made. The winners were Tim Bell — Den 1; Neal An thony — Den 3; and David Daughtery — Den 8. These three winners competed against each other In a final race with Daughtery, Bell and Anthony declared first, second and third place winners. The trio received trophy cups for winning In the Individual Den competition and another trophy each for their ranking In the final race. All of the cub scouts who participated In the Pinewood Derby received Pinewood Derby Ribbons. The Dens meet each Tuesday night at the homes of the respective Oen Mothers and once each month In fellowship hall of church. he made the motion to send the cases directly to the grand jury without a pre liminary healing in each case because he “was tired of fooling around to get the public defender’* office in court.’’ The public defender’s of fice had been appointed to defend Bristol as an indi gent who could not afford a private attorney. Preliminary hearings for Bristol had been set for Dec. 30,1970, Jan. 37,1977, Feb. 10, 1977 and Feb. 38, 1977, at the request of the defense, according to court records. Assistant public defender Doug Canty iqipeared in court to object to the state’s motion to send the cases directly to the grand Jury. The Objec tion was overruled by Judge Harris who said the state had the right to send a case to the grand Jury without a preliminary hearing.
