AnopenlettertD a mother vrfiose son is dicing manhood ♦♦♦ Now comes the time-as you knew it would- when your son must make his own way in life. It’s a time of anticipation for him. A time of hope for you. With all your heart, you want things to go right for him. If you are surprised that the Marine Corps is saying this to you, j please don’t be. Our mothers were just as con cerned about our futures as you are about your son’s. And as long as we have been Marines, we have never heard of a mother who wasn't proud of her son becoming one of a few gocxl men. If your son is considering the Marine ' Corps, we feel there are several things both he and you should understand about us. First— and very important—we are not looking for quitters. If he is in high school, he should/inish I ■ . r high school. If he has the chance to goto col- * I S?" - ' lege, he should seize the opportunity. Second, our training is demanding. If it weren’t, we wouldn’t be the Marines. But your son will be in good hands during his eleven weeks of recruit training. Graduation will be one of the proudest events of his life. And yours. Lastly, there are many options open to him in the Marine Qirps. Even before he enlists, he can choose between regular service or hometown reserve service. He may also qualify to choose the direction his training will take him - into aviation, for instance. We could go on about the good pay your son will earn, the many educa tional opportunities open to him, or the scores of other things which would rightfully interest you .. but a booklet we have for you is more complete.
