I am aware the city needs housing badly, but I feel the city needs much better housing than what was proposed.” OommlBslcner Norman King, BUI Orissom and Fred Wright were absent from Thursday’s meeting, but King submitted a letter asking the other commissioners to approve his aUowlng ChUdera to vote his proxy on aU agenda Items requiring vote action. The commissioners present approved the request and that constituted a quorum. Before the matter was closed. Mayor Moss asked the board to adopt a resolution setting forth guidelines and policies concerning new housing construction In the city. The various housing and land use studies the dty has on file wUl be used to form the basis of the guidelines. The resolution also retains the special committee formed last week to work with local realtors and developers on developing housing plans for the community. Mayor Moss wUl also serve with the group In trying to arrange available fimdlng for Implementing the program. — In other action, the com- mlssloners approved the ap pointment of a llason committee to work between the city government and the N. C. Department of Transportotlon. The committee wlU develop traffic patterns tai con nection with the new bypass and existing state-maintained roads In the city. Mayor Moss caUed It a plan to "make aU roads leading to Kings Mowtaln.” The committee consists of Oommlssloners Wright, as chair man, Orissom and Nlchdaon and Meirlon Thomasson, Marvin Teer, PhUlp Hager, Sen. OUle Harris, L. E. (Josh) Hlnnsuit and Mayor Moss. — Adopted a resolution wishing the citizens of Kings Mountain a safe and joyous Fourth of July, one that wlU aUow them to reflect on their privileges of being an American. — Adopted a resolution urging the Southeast Region, U. S. Postal Service to recommend a new postal facility for Kings Mountain. Mayor Moss, said businessmen. Industrialists and private citizens are aware of the Inadequacies of the present postal facility and the hazards of traffic and citizen safety concerning the present location. Kings Mountain was designated for a new postal facility over a year ago, but to date nothing further has been done to make that designation a reality. Daniels Enlists Li Air Force Tammy D. Daniels, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Daniels, of 403 Crocker Rd., has enlisted In the U. S. Air Force. Airman Daniels, a 1976 graduate of Kings Mountain High School, Joined under the Air Force’s Delayed Enlist ment Program (DEP), which allows her to ac cumulate time In the Air Force Reserve until she enters active duty on August 11, 1977. Sergeant Dan Rollins, Air Force recruiter In Oas- tonia, stated that Airman Dsuilels successfully com pleted a series (rf tests which qualified her for the MlsaUe Mechanic field of training. Zion Church ol Gastonia by Wil liam Milton Smith, presiding bishop of the Western North Carolina Conference of the African Methodist Bplscopal Zion Church. He succeeded Rev. S. T. Oo«*, who was ^tpolnted pastor of New Bynum Chapel AME Zion Church In Kings Mountain where he pastured three years. Rev. Holmes found a beautiful and modern church and facilities, however no place for the pastor to live unless renting a place by the laws of the church for whom ever the pastor might be appointed. He called a members meeting and asked then to agree to follow him In an effort to raise funds for the con struction of a parsonage — home for the pastors of Neely’s Grove Church for years to come. He ap pointed a Building Com mittee Including ’Trustees and Stewards of the church: Clyde Adams, William Patterson, Lyn Jackson, Myles Jackson, Sr. and two sons, Mr. Myles Jr., and A. Jackson, WllUam Johnson, Charles Worthy, Islah McCleone. Stewards Hermsin Glynn, WlUlam Palls, V. H. Fewell, Ernest Watson, E. Edwards, Roland Deeper, J. Deeper and Harvey Jackson. These two of ficial board members of the church got together right away and organized themselves Into a Building Parsonage Committee with Clyde Adams, chairman and Myles Jackson Jr. secretary began working right away in January 1977 and the parsonage-home for the pastors was completed In June 1977 — a ’Turn Key Building located In back of the Neely’s Grove Church Building on New H(^ Road South In Gastonia, Route 4, Box 413-A. Now the mennners and friends, white and black of Neely’s Grove Church are working very hard to raise funds to pay for this much needed parsonsige home for their pastors for years to come. ’The women of the church committed by Mrs. Myles Jackson Jr., Mrs. Barnette, Mrs. Jackson and Fronenberg and other women are In charge of the Inside of the parsonage fomlture, floors, walla and placing of the furniture.
