In a caUed meeting Monday Mayor Bill McCarter said the county had approved Deputy Benton con tinuing to serve the Orover area. The town, which haa already budgeted $12,000 tor law enforcement for 1077-78, will pay the salary for Bentm as well aa fur- nlahlng him with uniform!, equipment and a car. Benton’s salary will be $7,700 for the coming year, a mutually agreed figure with the town council. A deputy has been supplied to serve Orover for the past three years under a Law Enforcement Assistance Agency (LEAA) grant. The town fathers became concerned about police protection recently because the LEAA grant runs out In Sep tember. Councllmen were concerned that they might have to create a police department for Orover, an axpenae the tiny community cannot afford.
