Lack Df Money Should
Not Prevent An Education
BOIUNG SPRINGS
— "Lack of money
should keep few pros
pective students from a
college education,” re
marked Ms. Marie Mar
tin, head of Gardner-
Webb College’s finan
cial assistance pro
gram.
Out of a total enroll
ment of 1,474 last year,
66.75 percent of the stu
dent body received
some type of financial
assistance. According to
Ms. Martin, the average
award for 1976-77 was
$1,822.37.
Assistance comes In
several different forms.
It may be from a
federally - sponsored
program, such as na
tional direct student
loans, the work-study
program, or nursing
scholarships or loans.
There are some state
assistant programs,
such as North Carolina
legislative tuition
grants. There are both
academic and athletic
scholarships available
and also some Christian
service scholarships.
Some students have
several different types
of aid, Ms. Martin said.
Some may have student
loans and at the same
time be on a work-study
program.
Some forms of student
aid are made possible
by alumni and friends of
the college giving.

Convention of North
Carolina and Is one of
