Mounties Lose To Raiders 27-14

South Point rushed to
a 21-7 halftime lead over
the Mountaineers, saw
the hosts pull to within
21-14 In the third quar
ter, tlien put the game
on Ice with an early six
points In the fourth
period.
Junior fullback Fer
nandez Grier, a bruising
200-pounder, broke off
left tackle and raced 21
yards on a fourth and
four situation with 6:44
In the first period to get
the Raiders rolling
Friday.
’Ihe Raiders, behind
the running of Grier and
Steve Davis, took only
10 plays to cover the 66

Jim Hall hit fullback
David Ray Robinson
with a short pass at the
South Point 40 and the
hard-charging Junior
turned It Into a 38-yard
play. The Raider
defense finally pulled
him down at the 14 and
two (days later tailback
Kenny Bell circled right
end for an eight-yard
’ID. Bruce Valentine
booted the ix>lnt-after to
cut the difference to 14-
7.
South Point marched
right back to score on Its
third straight posses
sion. Reid returned the
KM kickoff 36 yards to
the 49, and Grier
covered the rest of the
distance on four con
secutive totes. His score
came from a yard out.
