Page 8A—MIRROR-HERALD—Thursday, October 27, 1977 Fencing Contracts Awarded To Chastain Charged With Reckless Driving In a special noon meeting Wednesday the city commissioners re ceived bids and awarded contracts to a local firm for fencing of the five-acre Citizens Service Center property. Four bids were received before Chastain Fence Co. of Kings Mountain was awarded the contract. Chsustaln was low bidder with $14,800 and a time NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCESAND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT schedule to begin of 30 days. TVo bidders were from Charlotte and one from Winston-Salem. These bids ranged from a high of $21,645 to a low of $16,362. CSC Committee Chair man James Childers also recommended the city negotiate with Sherwin- Williams Co. of Gastonia for the purchase of vertical blinds for the windows at the center and that they not go higher than $1,000 total for the materials. The board approved this recommendation. Childers also moved that bids on carpeting for the center be accepted, then rejected and that bids be readvertized. Wednesday's bid opening was the second for this item and two local firms responded. Lybrand Interiors, Inc. and Mc- Swain Carpet of Kings Mountain. These bids •ranged from $9,464 to $6,800 on varloug types of carpet and design. CJillders said he made the rejection motion based on advice from City Attor ney George Thomaslson. The motion was approved. David M. Lockrldge, of Yermo, Calif., was charged with reckless driving after he apparently ran a stopslgn and the car skidded on Bridges St. Sunday night at 12:60 p. m., according to Inves tigating Ptl. James Camp. Mr. Lockrldge was operating a 1977 VW on Bridges St. Mr. Lockrldge told KMPD that the street was an unfamiliar section of town. The car was damaged approximately $300. A car operated by Guy F. Melton, 17, of 211 Margaret St., rolled Into the back of a city police car operated by Ptl. Richard G. Byers Fri day on Mauney Ave. Ac cording to Ptl. Harry Mar tin, who investigated for KMPD, Ptl. Byers had given Melton a warning ticket for having improper brake lights and the car rolled Into the patrol car. Damages were estimated at $160 to the front of the city-owned vehicle and $60 to the car owned by Ronald Charles Worcester, of 106 Cansler St. Cars operated by Sandra J. Baxter, Rt. 1 Bessemer City, and Roy E. Hutfstet- ler, 318 Fulton St., hit at a stop light Friday at the Intersection of Gaston and Carpenter. The Baxter vehicle apparently ran the light. The 1974 Cadillac operated by Huffstetler was turning right, ac cording to Ptl. J. A. Bur ton. Damages were esti mated at $200 to the Baxter 1971 Ford and $300 to the fender and bumper of the Huffstetler car. Roy Keith Falls, 908 Shsiron Dr., operating a 1969 Chevy, told KMPD Ptl. Jim Camp that an other vehicle had stopped In front of him on Phifer Rd. Thursday and he slowed to stop. The Falls car v/as struck by a 1972 VW operated by Teresa D. Whitman of 1203 North- woods. Damages were estimated at $400 to the Whitman car and $160 to the Falls vehicle. Dcnald Rushton, of Bes semer City, told City Ptl. Jim Camp that he pulled Into the path of a 1973 Ford operated by Linda Ledford Moss, of 102 Carpenter St., Thursday. The Ledford vehicle was traveling South on Phifer Rd. and the Rushton 1966 Pontiac was crossing West on Mountain. Damages were estimated at $76 to the Moss car and $126 to the Rushton vehicle.
