Hunt and Kings Mountain schools are participating In the effort. "Child Find” Is a state wide effort to locate and Identify every handl- c^ped and gifted chUd, ages 0-21, who Is not now receiving services. This effort Is designed to Insure that these youngsters receive appropriate educational services when they reach the age of five years. The Child Find census Is one of the requirements of new legislation enacted by the 1077 North Carolina Legislature which guarantees children with special needs a free, ap propriate education. A census Is also required by the comparable federal law, Public Law 04-142. According to Theodore R. Drain, Director of the Division for Exceptional Children State Department of Public Instruction, "The Department welcomes the legislative mandate to lo cate these children. In the past we have had to rely on Incomplete Incidence figures — statistics which did not reflect the true picture In North Carolina. With the data from this census we will have a good base for planning and Ap[^cants Sought For Billings^ Job The city Is looking for a replacement for Larry Billings as director of Kings Mountain Develop ment Office. Applications will be available beginning at noon today in the mayor’s office at city hall. Interviews from the applications will be set up in one week to 10 days.
