Major, who aaiuned his duties as plant manager at Kings Mountain’s Eaton piant bwr weeks ago, was the guest of honor at a reception at Kii«s Mountain Inn last Thursday. It was an event to introduce Major to business, industrial and poUdcal leaders in Kings Mountain and Cleveland County. About SO guests met in one of the KM Inn banquet rooms to chat with EUiton's new plant manager. Major rq)laces Ron Tompkins, who wm trana- ferred to manage anothor Eaton plant in the south of Erancc. Major said the plant is “functioning beautifully and was when I came here.” Ho said he understood there were problems to be overcome when the plant first opened and added, “that without the community's and the people’s hdp operations would not be going as smoothly as they are.” Joe Robillard, public rela- tioeis man for Eato^ asked Sen. OUie Harris of Kii«s Motntain to do the honors of formally introducing Major to the guesU following the social hour. Sen. Harris said being naked to introduce Major reminded him of another incident when he first settled in Kings Moun tain to operate ids ftaieral home. “The ministers in the com munity came to me to ask if I would be in charge of the rdi- glous census,” Sen. Harris said. "I asked why me? Why not so and so? Everyone I named was answered with so and so is a good Baptist, or Lutheran or Presbyterian or Methodist. Dickey. Also Shelby City Manager David Wilkinson, County Manager Joe Hendrick and county commissioners Jack Palmer, Coleman Goforth, L. E. (Josh) Hkinant, Hugh Dover and C. M. Peder. Sheriff Haywood Allen and KM Police Chief J. D. Barrett were also present along with numerous business and industrial officials from Kings Mountain and Cleveland Coiaity. Dance, Gym Classes Set Registration for a new square dance class is scheduled at Gastonia’s Memorial HaD Tues., Jan. 3, 1978 at 8 p. m. Persons interested in taking lessons should plan to be there at that time. A small fee will be charged, according to Cynthia Byars of the Gastonia Recreation Department. For more information call C^rence Elpley at 867-553S after 5 p. m., or Ms. Byars during business hours at 864- 3211, extension 297. Die recreation department also has spaces available in winter gymnastics classes, according to Ms. Byars. Children 4-years old and up are being accepted.
