John L. McOlU, president of the board, made the portrait presen tation which was accepted by Mr. Mauney’s widow, Mrs. Oeorge (Wilma) W. Mauney. Mrs. Heiuy P. Nelsler, a member of the board, assisted In the unveiling of the oil portrait which has been hung In the lobby of the hospital on W. King Bt. After the presentation, members of the Kings Mountain Hospital Auxiliary served refreshments. Mrs. John L. McOUl and Mrs. L. B. Hinnant assisted In serving punch and coffee. Oeorge William Mauney, prominent Kings Mountain businessman and owner of Kings Mountain Bonded Warehouse, died Aug. 18, 1076. Said Mr. McOUl In making the presentation, on behalf of and In the presence of trustees and their wives and hospital officials, "We have met here this afternoon for the unveiling of a portrait of Oeorge William Mauney, who served as president of the board of trustees of the Kings Mowt^ Hospital for 18years. This la being dcme In recognition and In appreciation of his dedicated service to the hospital. Oeorge had a real passion for the great work of alleviating pain and suffering and In the preserving of human life. He had concern for all those In need of health care and he never lost sight of the underprivileged. Because of hla dedication, he gave generously of his time and efforts In support of tte cause which was so close to his heart. This portrait wlU aver penetrate a service unselfishly rendered and wUl remain In sUent testimony of a dedicated Ufa.” Responding and accepting the portrait, Mrs. Mauney said, "I want to express my gratitude and many Uhanks to the board of trustees for their thoughtfulness and klnfeiess in giving thla portrait to the hospital — a tribute In memoiy of Oeorge. I have a very happy and heart warming feeling that you regarded, may I say. Ids dedicated service to merit this tribute. If he could know, he would be humUe and most appre ciative. He truly enjoyed giving of his time and the knowledge he possessed with everyone to make the Kings Mountain Hoqiltal the best possible for aU who need M Its services. He wanted to and bemved In helping hla feUowman and In so doing he was serving Ood. Thank you again and my sincere ap preciation for this tribute In memory of Oeorge.” Bass Fishing Tourney Planned At Moss Lake Attention, bass fishermen! The Kings Mountsdn Fire Department wlU sponsor a one-day bass fishing tournament at Moss Lake either April 8 or IS. The tourney wlU entertain a maximum of 80 fishermen and 80 boats. Team fishing (two men) will be required. The entry fee Is $10 per person with all proceeds going to the fire department’s 1878 Toys For Tots program. Further details on the tournament and the prlMS to be offered to winning fishermen will be announced In later editions.
