Bayfield of Kings Moun tain, has been selected as 1OT7 Man of the Tear for Bowman Distribution Company of Cleveland, Ohio. This award was presented to Bayfield at the yearly sales meeting In Balelgh. He has been employed with the company for four years and Is Sales Trainee Manager for District 86 which Includes North and South Carolina. His work also takes him to other states from Maine to Florida. Bayfield Is a graduate of Gardner Webb College, Bolling Springs, and lives In Matthews, N. C- with his wife, the former Patricia Ann Burton of Kings Moimtaln, and their 16- year-old son, Jeffry. They are members of Mount Harmony Baptist Church In Matthews. ESC To Comply citing a proclamation Is sued today by President Carter, FrankUn L. Ware, Jr., manager of the Em ployment Security Com mission’s Shelby Job Serv ice Office, announced his office's participation In National Employ the Older Worker Week, March IS IS. "As much as race, sex, national origin or physical handicap, age la a signifi cant source of employment discrimination today," de clared Ware. "Our society sometimes over emphasises youth," he added, "and the ESC'a participation In this ob servance seeks to remind area employers that age has very little to do with either employability or job performance.” In addition. Ware cited the Federal Age Discrimination In Employ ment Act of 1967 which prohibits any form of job or hiring bias by an em- Idoyer on account of age. This law particularly applies to persons between the ages of 40-66. “Our Intention, however. Is not to Intimidate em- ployen with the law," said Ware. "Instead," he ex plained, "we wsmt em ployers to consider older workers because they've proven themselves reliable and experienced em- I*>yes.’’ In fiscal year 1977, the Employment Security Oommlsalcn placed nearly 18,000 persons 46 and older In jobs. This figure repre sented some 13 percent of aU Job placements made by the agency that year. In Shelby, the local Job Service office placed 387 older workers In FT 1877, about 13 percent of the office's 3,443 total placements.
