It will make things a lot easier for officials also, since they need to have plenty of room to check cars, etc. New lights have been Installed In die pits to msUce for better viewing for pit crews, drivers and more Important for the fans to have a better view of what Is going on In the pits. It will also make the pits a lot safer for all concerned. Drivers and qiectatars will also enjoy the new lighting on the track at Hickory Speedway. Speedway owners have purchased the best In stadium lights from the Westlnghouse Co. and workers are busy In stalling these lights In time for the first race. "We plan to put the new lights on the turns and use the existing lights on turns to add to the lighting on the straightway s’' reported Speedway President and General Manager, Hal Hamrick. "The new lights are so expensive that we wamt to redo our lighting In two cycles’’ Hamrick added. New lights are also being Installed In parking lots and security guards are being put in the lots to keep anyone from bothering cars during races. The Speedway also announced a new procedure In the program at Hickory ^eedway, the late model sportsman feature will be presented after the heat races of the Limited Sportsmen and Street Stocks. So the program will be heats for Streets, then heats for Umlted Sport smen. The Late Model feature wUl be next, GateswUlopenatBp. m. followed by the Umlted and races will start at 8 p. Petty and Yarborough have been outspoken critics of the system, which also has been un- pc^ular with other drivers. However, criticism diminished when qualifying awards were doubled last fall. “The more money we put In the pot, the more they will like it,” said speedway president Shioch Staley.
