A deadlock, In addition to the key-ln-the- knob lock Is essential. Use a wide-angle viewer rather than a door chain to ob serve callers. A screen door or storm door offers additional protection If kept locked. this booklet. Keep your windows closed and locked when you are away. Screens and storm win dows should be securely fastened to the structure. GROUND FLOOR WINDOWS — All ground floor windows should have key-operated sash locks or other locks as described In UPPER FLOOR WINDOWS — Keep your second floor secure by trimming tree branches away from the house to prevent climbing, and do not store ladders where a burglar can use them. Lock all windows while you are away. Take the same la-ecautlons as with ground floor windows. BASEMENT WINDOWS — Close and lock your basement windows. If they are not required for ventilation, they should be permanently secured by using screws through the window frame Into the structure. Treat the door from your basement Into the main part'of the house as an exterior door. OARAGE DOOR - The garage door should always be closed and locked. Make sure that you treat the entrance door from the garage to your house the same as any other door. A jgurglar In your garage can work on your house door undetected. Photo By Lib Stewart Schools To Screen The Kings Mountain Schools have made plans for a screening program designed to find back abnormalities am&ng school chUdren in the sixth grades. WUllam Davis, School Superintendent, says the simple examination procedure, which wrUl be handled by professionals, will require about au seconds. The school officials are urging local parents to grant permission for the simple tests. School cl^lldren wlU bring home special forms for parents to sign, giving their ap proval beginning next week. The objective of the program Is to detect spindal irregularities which can more easily be corrected In young chUdren. Baptists To Meet Baatslde Baptist Church of Shelby will host the Yard Sale annual meeting of the Kings Mountain Baptist Associstlonal WMU Tuesday night at 7:80 p. m. United Four Square Women of the Church will qjonsor a big yard sale Saturday beginning at 8 a. m. at National Guard Armory. All proceeds will benefit the church and a variety of flea market and yard sale items wdll be featured, said a spokesman. Mrs. John 8. McGee, missionary to Nigeria, will be the featured spoaker. Buddy Williams, as sisted by Rev. James A. Lowery, Interment following In Mountain Rest Cemetery. Mr. Reynolds was an employe of Huffstetler Auto Parts In Gastonia. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Linda Owens Reynolds; his father, Clyle Reynolds of Kings Signs of Scoliosis, the medical term for spinal curvature, are found In ^>proxlmately five to ten percent of young people examined. Continued foUow-up or treatment la needed In only about two percent of the cases. Spinal deformities often develop during the years of eau-ly adolescence, when the young person grows very rapidly. The treat ment, when necessary, usually consists of a back brace which helps to correct the condition and keep It from progressing. A brace does not Interfere with most activities. In eluding non-contact sports. The parents of students found to have signs of Scoliosis will be notified and urged to toko tholr child to a physician for forther evaluation. The examination. Itself, requires only that the child bend forward and bond to the aides. The examining personnel observe the spine and usually do not have to touch the body.
