Amy Dixon District 23 Miss Poppy Amy Dixon, six-year-old daughter of Mrs. Jane Dixon and the late CSiarles Dixon, was voted “Miss District Poppy” at the District 23 meeting Saturday of five American Legion auxiliary units. Kings Mountain, Shelby, Rutherfordton, Splndale and Forest City. She represented the Kings Mountain Unit In com petition with other Poppy Queens from the District. Amy will advance to state competition In June at the state convention of the Auxiliary In Winston Salem. Mrs. Ruth Gamble, Dis trict 23 President, pre sented Miss Dixon with a red banner lettered In gold. Splndale Unit members hosted the 10 a. m. meeting which was followed by luncheon at Splndale House. The members elected Mrs. Robert McRorle of Rutherfordton to serve as the new district president and Mrs. Jackie D. Barrett of Kings Mountain to serve as alternate district president for the coming year. The Kings Mountain Unit won first place for Its table arrangement of red popples, a basket featuring popples and blue-checked gingham flowers and baby’s breath made by Mrs. Charles Dixon. The arrangement will be en tered In state competition with other poppy wdnners. Mrs. J. M. Eubanks of Raleigh, state president, made the principal ad dress. Attending the meeting from Kings Mountain were Mrs. Gamble, Mrs. Barrett, Miss Elizabeth Stewart, unit president; Mrs. Charles Dixon and Amy; and Mrs. Mallle Parker. Shelby Unit president Lib Harmon headed a delegation which Included Mrs. B. M. Jarrett, past national president; Mrs. Anne Singleton and Mrs. R K. Wilson. Mrs. Wilson presented the courtesy report for the meeting. SOT.
